It's no wonder women feel body image pressures

doesn't bother me tbh. i thought this was done to cut costs and besides, there's stacks of 'real' women out there with bodies like that, i assumed it was cheaper to not have to hire a model when they could shop a mannequin?

I think she's hot! ;)

Also its not like they used a super stick thin "model" is it??

One moment we are being told everyone is too fat and the next minute we are told everyone is trying to be too thin because of the media/lingerie models e.t.c

Bah.

Wow, you are actually bothered by this?

Seriously, there must be more impoartant things to worry about.

Yes, and I'll be more bothered when my two girls are anorexic as a result of trying to achieve 'real' body sizes. Just like my partner's teenager has been struggling with anorexia...

how many people become anorexic because of issues like this and is this really this issue for their anorexia? it may sound like i'm having a go but i'm not. i just cannot understand that it is as simple an issue that a girl sees a skinny model and thinks 'i know, i'm going to starve myself so i can look like that'.. has to be some underlying issue that is there in the first place imo.

The Swedish fashion chain seems to think that even models don't have good enough abs for their site, as they have superimposed women's heads on to the bodies of computer-generated mannequins instead.

Apparently there's not stacks of women out there with bodies like that.

A spokeswoman for H&M said: "The technique can be found being used throughout the industry. It is regrettable if we have led anyone to believe that the virtual mannequins are real bodies. This is incorrect and has never been our intention."

Hmmm - does it look like a real person or a mannequin? I was fooled!

No, you're absolutely right, but it has long been considered to be a contributing factor. And it doesn't matter if someone is predisposed to something, if there is a trigger factor that pushes someone one way or another then surely that's not a good thing.

Maybe it's just me with kids who see billboard and tv adverts everyday with skinny models in lingerie, or tv programs (mostly American) with skinny actresses being paranoid. But I hear what my kids say and my youngest particularly (who's six) wants to be thin and beautiful when she grows up apparently. Not healthy, but thin. There's a lifestyle choice....

Having two young girls, one of whom is just approaching her teenage years, this sort of thing really bugs me.

USE REAL PEOPLE FFS :(

What difference would using a real woman have?
In fact you can bet a lot of the bikini models would be thinner and less healthy looking that the model.
It's not exactly a size 0 model, just a slim in shape one.

Having figures like this in the public eye cannot be blamed for young girls taking to anorexia or other such problems. Clearly the ones that do have other deep seeded confidence and self image issues.

Oh and another thing, you do know there are REAL women out there thinner than these images right?

Yes, and they will be under normal weight and BMI, i.e. in an unhealthy region.

I'm going to keep quiet now. I'm obviously in the minority of blokes who don't think this is a) helpful or b) responsible but c'est la vie.

Lol - the irony in the bold bit. I'm not going to explain it....
