Hi there,

I am on the look out for a tablet for my other half this christmas, but have not idea which one to get.

I want to spend around the £300 mark and need the following specs:

Screen size of around 10.1" though would consider slightly smaller
Decent touchscreen and battery life
Flash compatible
Expandable storage

The tablet is going to be used mainly for sufing the web and playing back videos/music.

Is there anything out there that might fit the bill? I have already ruled out the Motorola Xoom as it doesn't support flash.

The Samsung 10.1 is not only too pricey but apparently has no USB ports or any other way to add storage!

Thanks v much.

Thanks very much - looks ideal to me.

Asus eeepad Transformer - looks ideal to me.

I can't quite find it online for £300 at the moment.

I am not sure exactly what we can discuss on this forum in terms of specific websites, but do you recommend that I keep looking and I will find it for around this price?

The Carphone Warehouse were selling them for £299 but they are out of stock.

Go on Google and search using the 'shopping' tab, that should throw up a few leads. :)

Current pricing is just under £300, but - reportedly - stock is hard to come by.....since the most recent drop.
Cracking tablet, both for the money, and in general :D

Hi there, thanks for your earlier input last year in relation to this. I never got round to buying the Transformer over Christmans and was going to order over the weekend.

I know a lot can happen in a few months - is the transformer still the thing to get?

Thanks

Xoom supports flash just fine. I've just watched a program on the bbc iplayer.
Having had the Xoom and transformer (without dock) I prefer the Xoom.
Battery lasts longer and charges quicker

I have just looked at a few comparisons between the Xoom and theTransformer and they are very evenly matched, making my decision that bit harder now - good call, I hadn't considered the Xoom.

Other than the battery is there anything else you favour about the Xoom and are there any cons about it?

It does seem that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the best tab of the lot and has come down a little price - I am not sure that it is that much better than the Xoom or Transformer to justify a massive hike in price though.

tab 10.1 needs an adapter for micro sd. Transformer has a better screen than the Xoom. Xoom is heavy but I like its design the most.

Xoom has slightly worse screen and is a little heavier. Only two things for me.
My Xoom is easier to hold and charges rapid compared to the transformer.
Plus I'm running ICS now which is brilliant, especially as it has not one bit of bloat being GED.
