Hi,

At the moment I have no case fans in my tower case and CPU runs at 60c when maxed out for a long time. I was looking at fitting three case fans. One at the front at the bottom to draw air in, one on the rear at the top to extract the hot air from the CPU etc.

I was looking at fitting the third fan on the vent on the top of the case by the CPU to extract more hot air.

Is this the right approach and roughly how much will it lower my temps ?

Also i was looking for a fan controller for about £30 if any one can recommend one. The pc is used for bf3 and encoding.

Thanks.

Yes prob about 5-8c if you are lucky although 60c is not bad with no case fans.

check out the fan controllers on special offer at the mo too in the latest special offers forum

Thanks for the advice. I have bought 120mm akasa viper fans and a trio controller. I already have one viper and having poked about in the case it fits fine in all three positions.

Just need to convince the misses to turn the central heating down from defcon 1 so the pc can run even cooler ;)

Installed two 120mm akasa viper fans, one the rear and one at the top. Temps in bf3 dropped from 60c to about 46c at 1100rpm. At 1800rpm temps drop in the low 40's but a bit too loud so didn't run at that speed for long.

Just need to tidy up the cabling which is a right mess now.

Thanks for the advice.

Ordered the Vipers today aswell, may I ask u if the best speed is at 1100RPM? is it near-inaudible

thx

It didn't bother me but You could hear them at 1100 but they were not very loud.

To be honest the fans only go on for bf3 type gaming and encoding, so I don't hear them. Having said that they work well and were easy to install.

The rest of the time they are off as not needed.

Ok cheers, that meets my needs :)

It was an akasa trio fan controller, easy enough to install and use. The only odd thing was the viper fans should go from 600rpm to 1900rpm. Using the trio they go from 1100rpm to 1900rpm. Not a problem for me I only turn the fans on for gaming and encoding.
