Since the x4 955 was discontinued and being too late in buying it, my search for a CPU with a similar performance remains. (It has to be AMD because of the mobo I am buying).

Is the 960t on par, if not better than the 955 in terms of performance? I've read that it is quite cooler because of its thermal design power, but the lack of reviews isn't making me extremely convinced (the only review I've seen is one from Tom's hardware).

Of course, I know about its possibility of unlocking it. I'm not too bothered about unlocking since I initially wanted a quad-core in the first place; but it'd be nice to unlock it anyway if it actually does it.

I'm focusing on this CPU since my budget is quite tight and I'm kind of stretching it too far going for the 960t (sounds wrong in so many ways :p ).

Yes the 960t is a much better CPU as its a hex core CPU with 2 cores locked, with the right motherboard and if your lucky it can be unlocked to a hex core processor..

So go for it!

Great! Thanks for the advice. 960T it is then. The board I'm getting is an MSi 870-C45 which says that it's able to unlock on MSi's website.

I wounder if it would be much of an upgrade going from a 955?

Most games dont need/use 6 cores right?!
