Buy now or wait?

I'm in the same boat, my gtx 460 plays BF3 on Medium great and Skyrim on full so I guess I can wait.

Definitely buy unless you already have a very good card. The 7-series won't be out for at least a month and the prices as usual will be really high for the first few months.

I think I'll get the 570 then maybe 4/5 months down the line I will sell it and get a 600 series card

7950 is supposedly $399 which is around the £260 mark. I think I will just wait...

In the UK we get a very special exchange rate with the US so based on current prices if the 7950 spanks the gtx 580 and with no new nvidia card in sight I would expect it to be at least £350 at launch and that's being optimistic.

Current exchange is 1.00 GBP = 1.56309 USD

In the UK our sales tax is 20%
In the US their sales tax varies by state it's around 10% however.

You will see a lot of people saying that our prices are straight away 20% more than America on tax alone. It's actually more like 10% I have always seen that as an excuse to charge us even more.

However we are a smaller market and one cut off from the rest of Europe by the sea, which can add a little to shipping costs.

There is a lot of fleasing in the IT world (as with many other industries), however some retailers have a more standardized pricing scheme which can lead to savings upwards of £50 on things like high end GFX cards that run into the hundreds, but you have to shop around.

Lets look at how things work out in UK vs US pricing

Asus GeForce GTX 580 Matrix Platinum 1536MB £419.99 here on OCUK
ASUS MATRIX GTX580 P/2DIS/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB $529.99

Now 529.99 USD = 339.127 GBP

Now 20% VAT on lets call it £340 is £68 so £408, pretty close actually, however its more like a 10% tax discrepancy as stated above soo.. £375, as I say England is an island and a smaller market etc but I would still expect this card to come in at under £400.

It always seems to me that the English retailer wants that little bit extra out of its customers though. My brother saved somewhere between £50-£100 (after postage) by buying a laptop from america (american kb aside)
