Need some ideas for what to get for my Dad for Christmas. What is everyone else getting their old man?

He is the most difficult person in the world to get gifts for and usually end up just getting a nice jumper for him or something. He's early 70's, extremely into football and sports in general. Not really a big drinker, or into cars (so no driving experiences), or technology etc.

I said he's into football, this is kind of an understatement as he's a freelance journalist / historian / memorabilia collector, so getting him anything football related would be difficult because a) if he wants something he usually has it, and the things he collects are so rare / obscure, only he would actually know what they are.

Recently did a hot air balloon experience with him, plus also got him a nice big canvas of his favourite pic of my son, so those ideas are out of the window too.

Also thought about getting him a weekend away or fancy meal for 2, but I already have something planned for my Mum so dont want him to have to share his present, and then my Mum gets something else.

Budgets around £100. Serious / helpful posts only please :D

Hundred quid should get a decent Hooker & in your face to serious answers this is GD & Crimbo smileys are laughing at you. :p

My dad is an absolute nightmare to shop for. Hes into virtually nothing. He likes football, but he already has the most recent football top for the team he supports and a season ticket, so I cant really contribute there.

He was recently diagnosed with borderline diabetis, so hes completely stopped drinking and spends most days at the gym trying to keep his weight down. Which scuppers my usual fallback present of beer.

My Dad travels for work still so i got him this:

from the conran store. Its a shirt protector so you can turn up somewhere with a fresh shirt when on business :)

Bleh I just had an awesome idea of giving my mums partner a 12month subscription to the sports channels + hd but sky dont do gifts like this. Damnit.

*watches thread for ideas*

I've got my Dad a really nice bottle of port, and getting a selection of his favourite cheeses. Making a nice presentation box out of an old wine box. A bit nicer than a shop bought one, because I'm making it and I can make sure the cheeses are worth the money!

Two cases of john smiths, a john smiths pint glass, john smith bar towel, john smith drip tray and a leeds united ashtray.. and an AC/DC mug. I really wanted to get him the full 17album discography from ac/dc but I cant afford that :(

Still on the lookout for something else to D:

Shaving Kit and lovefilm subscription not really my dads thing, also he's not a big drinker :(

still pretty stuck, keep the ideas coming :p
