Last week I had a very minor bump with someone, basically sat in traffic, my car is an auto and I daydreamed for a second and managed to roll into the back of someone at the crawling speed you get in drive with no acceleration but also no brake.
Checked my car and there is literally no damage, nothing at all aside from I think the metal surround for my numberplate is a tiny bit bent but its so insignificant I can't guarantee that wasn't there before (4 yr old 320d coupe which I've owned for 3 months).
Considering it was my fault (I guess? I don't know why he stopped but I've always been under the impression if you go in the back of someone its your fault pretty much 100% of the time) and my excess is £500 and there was no visible damage (see pics) I suggested the chap got a quote and I'd pay it rather than pushign premiums up etc.
I think on that you can see perhaps the bumper on the right is pushed ever so slightly forwards but no cracked paint etc.
So anyway, I've got the quote below which seems crazy expensive to me?
What I want to ask is..
1) Can anyone decipher exactly what they're saying needs doing? the way I read it is they're saying half the back of the car needs repair which I don't get considering I hit him with my numberplate and nothing more
2) There's no parts is there? It looks like a load of paint and a lot of labour?
3) for that damage does this seem excessive?
4) Anyone have experience of solus? Are they pricey?
5) can anyone suggest a bodyshop in the clapham area thats likely to take cash or be cheaper/better?
6) given my excess is £500 but I don't want to claim for anything myself is it still going to be the best way to pay it myself?
General advice please! Never had to claim for hitting someone as I don't make a habit of it but I remember when I damaged my old Focus ST by scraping it on a wall I had a quote of £800 and that was pretty much the entire side needed pushing back into shape and spraying so £600 for nothing obvious seems like a ****take?
Halp! What would you do?
