Well i've just placed an order for these,

http://us.playstation.com/ps3/accessories/wireless-stereo-headset-ps3.html

managed to find a uk stockist, they aren't actually due for release until 18th november.

Not the greatest headphones around but will certainly save me having to plug headphones into my tv and running a cable.

Will be glad to be rid of the horrendous ps3 bluetooth headset, hurts my ears to use.

Anybody else purchasing these?

they look great, how much?

79.99, but i managed to bag from a uk retailer for 72.99 (i wont post links due to competition).

Not a bad price point when they are £50 cheaper then turtlebeach's and there wireless to boot!!

i got Logitech Wireless Headset F540 and Ubisoft Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Bundle for £77.40 using a code i was emailed.

its basically the exact same thing, apart from it can be used with up to 3 sources and i can switch the source from the headset itself.

so i could use it on my pc, ps3 and xbox 360, without needing to get up.

i also sold assassins creed for a little over £10.

i dont think any more codes are going to be issued so its up to you whether you think its worth the premium for the logitech set at full price, i think it is because logitech are amazing.

the only annoying thing is, that when you talk, you hear your own voice come through the headset in real time.

Possibly a noob question, but why the dongle? Why don't Sony just use Bluetooth?

The USB stick that comes with it apparently picks up the headset straight away, unlike my Sony Bluetooth earpiece which I had to manually set up, probably just saves on hassle more than anything.

it's annoying though for the new slim console owners i would suspect.

luckily i have a launch 60GB (upgraded myself to 500GB for £35) console with 4 USB ports.

i use 1 port for charging my pads, 1 port for EA sports active dongle, 1 port for my logitech headset and the other port for play TV.

now if someone has play tv, and uses the other port for charging, they cant charge whilst using the headset.

bluetooth would have been the way forward imo, this is only going to aggravate users with lots of accessories.

They could get a USB hub, I agree it's a slight inconvenience for Slim users but I'm sure the majority of people will be aware that it takes up a USB slot before they buy it.

seeing as it's an official accessory, they should have thought about it more, the console has bluetooth, why not use it?

my old bluetooth earpiece had zero connection issues, it did sound crap though, im assuming this uses radio waves and has a much better quality signal, similar to my logitch headset.

sony have really messed up the whole headset market, they ideally needed to bundle a cheap USB headset with every console, or one which plugs into the controller a la xbox.

nobody and i mean nobody has a headset on ps3.

in 100 matches of fifa, you will come against 1 guy with a headset.

in 10 matches of mw3, you get 9 idiots who spam the mic with music then in the 10th match you get someone decent to talk to.

on the xbox its completely different, everyone has a mic and therefore you dont get as many idiots as people tell them to stfu

Yeah I do agree with you, they should have used Bluetooth it would have been a much better solution. They should definitely have bundled a cheap headset with each console, just something that plugs into the controller would have been sufficient. Like you say there isn't many people on PSN that use mics, and the ones that do are usually 10 year olds screaming abuse down the mic. Xbox Live is a much better experience in that respect, you still get a lot of annoying idiots, but seeing as everyone has a mic you run into the decent people much more frequently than on the PSN.

I definately agree that it should have been bluetooth, I dont know really why they used RF but there must be some reason, stereo surround maybe not supported?

I don't really use the USB slots much so its not that big an issue for me.

i was hoping sony would have learnt from microsoft, as you know all mobile phone companies learn from their competitors, and at least pinched some of their ideas. but no they tried doing their own thing and it has failed miserably.

i deleted home when i had mu 60GB hard drive, it was far too big and useless.

so i downloaded it the other day to see if they had updated it and if it was any good, since i now have a 500GB hard drive, i have space to use.

there was like 20 people on it, it was deserted and i think all of them were 12 year olds. wtf were sony thinking? its a console, we dont want a gay virtual environment to meet people, we just want to be able to have a laugh and a joke and play some games.

as you can see above, i was hoping to get some decent usage out of my headset, why i bought a decent one, but seriously hard to find a decent community on the ps3.
