New Contract Phone

And that's fine, but leading with a 'Jailbreak F.T.W' argument when you can't even Jailbreak the 4S is a tad weak.

I don't have a 4S, no point getting one as the only difference is Siri, which has been ported to the iPhone 4 anyways. Plus jailbreaking is the only reason that I bought an iPhone, jailbreaking is a massive deciding factor for some people

No one has asked Bobuk what sort of contract price he is willing to go to, or if he is willing to pay an upfront fee.

Or even what network he is on, and that he should call his provider to see what they can offer before he goes shopping around.

To try and bring back the thread to help the OP, Robbo asked earlier, what type of stuff would u be wanting to use the phone for mostly, as this will help people guide you in the right direction.

Suggesting deals was going to be my next point after he said what he'll be using the phone for, but he hasn't answered that yet...

No, the only difference isn't Siri and it will never work properly on the iPhone 4 either.

I strongly doubt it's a deciding factor for the OP, so I found it bizarre that you dived right into that.

In my experience this is true, so what are you sighing for?
Its more trouble then its worth. The majority of apps are like 59p - £2, if you can afford one of the most expensive phones on the market I'm sure you can afford these apps. From my experience (yes I have done it, it just is a mess)

My iPad is jailbroken and waiting on a iPhone 4S one. It's the 'small' things I jailbreak for. SBSettings so I can disable wi-fi quickly, like in the Android notifcaiton centre. Having more apps in one folder. These things just make the phone better.
Sigh = Why does everyone think people jailbreak so they can get free apps.

But anyway, no one can tell you if Android or iOS is better. It's down to preference. I prefer my iPhone compared to my Galaxy S, sure I miss some things about Android... but I still prefer my iPhone. Best to just have a long play around with an iPhone in a store and the same with a Android phone.

Can you guys maybe stop derailing the thread....

If this is aimed at me, I'm merely correcting him otherwise the OP is at risk of taking what he's saying at face value, when nearly everything he has said is incorrect.

It already does work exactly the same as it does on the 4S, it's just not been ported legally yet

No, it still doesn't work properly. The Apple data centre blocks it.

OP, what do you want from a phone? Would you be happy with a simple easy to use interface with hardly any customisation but just works, or would you like something you can customise and fiddle with? Also do you play games as the appstore has a wider collection of games then the Google Market so that might be a consideration.

It was aimed at you and Jay794

No it doesn't, without going into to much detail as it's really not relevant, it involves spoofing a 4S's IMEI number and some other stuff. But it does work

So you'd rather I didn't respond to him and the OP gets an iPhone on the basis that 'Apple are the best at everything'?

Currently, it doesn't work. End of discussion.

i gave my brother the choice of an iphone or android for christmas, he said he wanted an android phone - fair enough, so i got him a galaxy S2.

I think if i had the pick of phones today, it would go:

samsung galaxy s2
samsung nexus
iphone 4/S

I'm not too sure about the nokia lumia, heard good things but haven't had a play myself, i just like the android operating system.

I currently use a desire HD myself but had an iphone 3G before that, you've really got to have a play with each of the phones first. You might like how simple the interface is on the iphone or you might like the complexity of the android, see if it suits your needs. If your needs only involve talk/text/internet, then either, if there are specific apps you want to use, then that will be useful in decision making as well.

Iphone is a great phone, used to have the 3G until apple killed it with IOS 4, best apps hands down and almost always gets them before the other platforms, however I didn't like 3.5 inch screen and wanted to change the look of my phone. IOS wall of apps is a bit boring after 2 years so went for the Desire HD which is a good phone, Android is great but you really do need to tinker with it to get the best out of it.
Windows phone 7 is great too. I use a Omnia 7 16gb as my main phone now and it works better than IOS for general stuff in my opinion but the app market still has a way to go to catch up.

The fact you can jailbreak the iPhone means it is definitely the best phone in the market today. The level to which you can customise your iPhone is crazy

Wait so iPhone is the more customizable then android phones O_O. I think your really missing everything here, most people who jailbreak there iphones dont change anything at all.

I would disagree that iPhone have the best OS, I think ICS has taken a huge leap forward and in most thing I would say its way ahead of iOS.

The big selling point of iPhone is that its simple, not that you can customize it. Anyone after customzing there phone goes for android.

I'd personally go for Android as it's the up-and-coming (although it's been around for years now...) "underdog" next to the mighty apple - and in that situation it's storming through the competition like a tank with nitrous!

Custom ROMs on Android make for some serious geek fun and even if you're not looking at rooting and installing custom stuff, the level of control you have over your device is awesome!

Granted you can't modify any of the internal system files without rooting, but rooting itself is so easy my seven year old could do it!!

My mother in law and brother in law were both iphone nuts but they both ended up swapping to Android with the HTC Sensation (which is another good phone to add to the list of possibles IMO)

I'm on Android with a Galaxy Spica (gay) but when I upgrade, the choice is simple - SGS2 - no brainer if you ask me :)

My contract is similarly up shortly. The best android phone on the market is (generally, although not universally) believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is showcasing Google's new operating system, which is apparently rather good. Otherwise (in terms of hardware) the Nexus appears to be nothing special.

I'm not going to get this however, as it's been out for about half a year already. New phones are expected to be showcased in February, and I'm willing to wait for the next generation. If that just means a cheaper SII, then so be it.
