Dell XPS L702x keyboard info ?

Hi ..Can anyone tell me if the Dell XPS L702 x2 3d Laptop comes with a standard keyboard or is is one of the Backlite type ? i have read that these are a nice extra touch any info thanks ?:confused:
 
I'm pretty sure they come with a backlit keyboard as standard. If you are ordering through the dell website then you can check as you're ordering it :)

If it doesn't come with a backlit keyboard as standard (Which I'd be surprised if it didn't!) then you can always ring them up and ask to buy one (I'm unsure about the cost, you MAY be able to get one for free if you complain etc - Don't take my word on that as I'm unsure!)

Fitting a backlit keyboard is pretty easy too :)

thanks how do i know if its a backlit keyboard ? don,t want to sound thick ha! :confused:
 
No they dont come with a backlit keybored as standerd, cost 30 pounds when in the dell builder. ring up and check if it dosent say it comes with one. then if you want one say you would pay for it. and most likely you wont get one if you complain.
 
The backlit keyboard can be off, bright, and brighter. The function-F6 key is used to switch it between off, bright, and brighter. Only the backlit keyboard has the function-F6 icon on it, the normal keyboard just has F6 written on it.

thanks mine is the normal function key it just has f6 on it plus i just sat in the dark and the keyboard is black apart from the icons under the display ..
 
Yeah mine too. I keep meaning to get in touch with Dell to find out how much it'll cost to buy the UK backlit keyboard for me to fit but I've not got around to it yet.

If you do can you let us know the price?

yeah okay i,m looking into it ..i know they sell them on the Auction site think around £53 with postage Genuine Dell product :) I fitted a new keyboard to my old Dell D630 Laptop and it was easy to do i,ve looked at the manual on Dell and its straight forward to do :)

Its super easy, had mine apart a few times now!

thats good ..does the touch pad or top come apart easy ? as i know its basically 3 screws plus the one screw that holds the dvd in then its a matter of unpluging the connections is that correct ? any help is recieved greatly ha!

If i remember it was remove the optical drive, remove the 3 screws that reveales then pry off the top cover, it is held on with wee clips... take your time and it will be fine. If folds towards you then you remove connections, i think there were 2.

After that the keyboard is easy to move too, no screws or anything. It kinda just unclips from a point at either side and the lower half is kinda resting in wee inserts, this also folds towards you and can be put down on its face :)

Then it unclips, when putting in a backlight one there are two cables instead of one.

The service manual for the laptop covers everything in great detail!
 
I have a spare normal keyboard for my L702x so I decided to try removing the palm rest to fit it just to see how easy it was. I read the instructions in the Dell service manual and also found a YouTube video where the guy used a screwdriver to prise off the palm rest but there was no way I was going use a metal screwdriver. :eek:

I used a couple of those green plastic case openers and slowly made my way around the palm rest popping it off at each clip and finally it came loose and I was able to replace the keyboard.

So overall it's not that difficult to replace the keyboard but it is a little daunting at first as starting off is a little fiddly and popping the clips can be troublesome when they don't pop right away.
