Hello all,

basically I'm out in Toronto now and thought a visit to ufc140 was a requirement for being here however as I was pretty busy with work I let my housemate get the tickets sorted as I was never home till pretty late.

Long story short my housemate got void tickets as the guy bought them on his CC, got his e-ticket, then cancelled and got a refund. In fairness as soon as I saw the tickets I expected something funky.

Anyway what is the general course of action to getting money back or is it pretty much a lost cause and dont bother wasting my time? Housemate has his facebook, I haven't seen it but assume it is just a fake one, he also has the credit card number that was cancelled, again I figure this would have been set up with the wrong address etc

first thing is to report it to the police - go to a police station, provide evidence of the transaction etc.

I take it your house mate never met the guy in person when he bought the tickets, just got them emailed to him? Was this done through craigslist?

Gather any info that may be useful through his facebook - address, telephone numbers etc.

The chances of you getting your money back are slim but your chances are zero if you choose to nothing - what have you got to lose, except a bit of time?

Could take them through small claims (or whatever the equivalent is in Canada?) I wouldn't bet on getting the money back tho.

bought on his CC? just get the money back from CC then.

No the fraudster bought it on his cc, sold them on, then cancelled his card. I did suspect something dodgy so had him go to the box office but they refuse to validate tickets before the night of the event which i think is pretty poor.

Will get him to chase up but my housemate seems pretty wreckless with money so will be surprised if he bothers his arse, will maybe just do it myself

your housemate got tickets from 'the guy' that bought them with a CC?

Why didn't your housemante get them a 'proper' way? How did your housemate pay? Who is 'the guy'?

It all sounds a little bit waaaaay, a little oooh, a little bit, you know. I'd forget about your money tbh.

Yeah figured it was gone and best forgotten about as not to annoy me. But I am generally pretty damn good with money, making little savings everywhere and this just annoys the life out of me. More so because I know he has been so stupid, as soon as I saw the tickets I knew we were scammed and I can't believe he would be so naive.

Still would be harsh to ask for my money back, I never would have as I know its a genuine mistake but not even getting to pee that £160 up the wall is upsetting!

$225 each ~£160, face value was over $1400 but people were trying to get rid of them like mad, there were genuine deals being made around that price
