I thought this was a bit harsh, considering these threads:

Second hand weed smoke- army drugs test? http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18315198
Question about the misuse of drugs act (busted with) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18225858
Drugs, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18212877

His topic wasn't even about the actual drugs (absolutely unlike those open threads above) - just the people he knows who uses them and the later-life effects. It isn't even as explicit as the threads about the legalisation of drugs (or not) which are still about, unlocked.

I've never posted something like this before, because it is annoying and prickish. However, I thought it was quite harsh to someone in a low place and in need of some OcUK chat.

Discussion of works drug testing and drug legislation is perfectly acceptable, the talk of the effects of drugs aren't (we don't want to glamorise drug taking itself), which is why the third thread in your list was closed, whilst the other two weren't.

As for closing the other thread, it was heading into medical territory to be honest.

Threads about drug testing or legalisation didn't go into the effects?

I must have missed that... he certainly wasn't asking for medical advice.

He just asked:

What I'd like to ask is it like this everywhere?, do a majority of your friends smoke weed do drugs etc?

In that case I'll go clean it up, please RTM in future.

It was certainly heading that way though due to the nature of the OP, plus with some posters not being particularly sympathic to him, I agree with the mod that closed it that closing it was the best course of action.

I dont get why yours got locked either, everything was starred out and it had massive potential :D
I know right?

All I see on OcUK these days are down right depressing threads about black people, immigrants etc and they're dozens and dozens of pages long.

A fun thread appears and BAM after only 29 posts!

Meh, if it has to be done it has to be done. No biggie.

I see your point. Unless I have missed something, though, his nature wasn't obvious until it was locked. But that's semantics, I get your gist.

I appreciate the lock for the nature of the OP w.r.t. to medical threads, but then the lock reason was kind of misleading ('drugs talk'). That's cleared up for me now.

If you do a search for the word 'drugs' in thread titles, you'll find plenty of stuff which 'ought' to be cleaned up.

Thanks for not banning me (yet) ;).

I am completely anti-drugs but even i think we should talk openly about drug effects. For the same reason why we should have proper sex-ed in schools instead of rampant teenage-pregnancy

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) these forums are not a democracy...

Whether you agree with it or not at the end of the day our opinions in such matters count for very little in the grand scheme of things. (Awaits someone inevitably pointing out that thread in gaming subforum)

Don't see it changing anytime soon either so we may as well get on with it as happenes every time these issues are raised...

I think that Lowrider just needs someone to talk to, he obviously feels pretty low and alone right now so hopefully people will consider that and offer him a bit of support either on here or through trust.

Email in trust, Lowrider if you see this and want to chat. Chin up mate.

The fact this thread still exists and a mod has replied shows that (a) they hear what is said and (b) take an interest in our understanding of their reasoning.

Let's not get into that and/or turn this thread into something ugly.

My intention was not to try and turn this into something ugly. I am actually in favour of the forums being relatively un-democratic. A community as large and.... oppinionated as GD needs rules and needs them enforced.

It strikes me as odd every time such a thread comes up that anyone who has been posting on these forums for any length of time doesnt know how things around here work.

Anyone with over 500 posts, posting "OMG why you delete my thread" should know better ;)

I feel for Lowrider as he is obviously in a bad place right now but seriously the forums is no place for such threads and perhaps proffesional help would be more suitable.
