Hi guys,

I usually have in-ear headphones (Sennheiser IE8i's) for listening to music 'on the go' but wouldn't mind some headphones for listening to music in the house (especially now we have a baby!)

I've been offered some pretty much new Beats Solo HD's, my friend has given me them to trial and if I like them he says I can have them for around £100, I saw some go for £115+ on eBay so seems a good deal, however are there alternatives that sound better that are around the same price?

Cheers

Will you be in the same room as the baby most of the time? if you do your probably going to be best with some good closed back headphones. If your not usually you can also look at open back that leak a bit of sound.

Solo HD I personally find terrible for anything other than trance music or anything with a good bit of bass. Im not an audio expert just fussy. You can however certainly do better for £100

My choices would be for open backed around £100 Grado SR80i
Closed back would be at around £125 the BEYERDYNAMIC DT770 PRO or if it must be under £100 then the DENON AH-D1100

I think they have been reduced to about £120.00 in major retailers. I have a pair of Solo's which I like and use for watching blu rays etc so I have no major problems with them. I also have some Sennheisers, sony's and AKG's. You can't beat try before you buy regardless.

I've got a pair of the Studios and the Studio Pros. I've tried the solos and found them uncomfortable and the sound quality lacking, if they're anything like the regular studios they will also leak sound quite badly.

Personally I'm not aware that they leak sound badly-if anything quite the opposite. Maybe this is an issue due to you finding them uncomfortable (which I do not) etc. Perhaps also more down to the shape of your head and the type of fit? :)
