I guess this is the appropriate sub forum?

How would you go about sealing the heatshrink at the PSU end of the cable? I dont particularly want to get too close to the box with a lighter/ soldering iron incase I burn and destroy some of the internals/ wires.

Another, more PSU specific, question. How would I go about braiding between the sata power connectors? Ive taken the backing off the plugs, but I cant see any way of splitting the wires to put braid over them.

You could try the traditional method of fixing heat-shrink down....a heat gun. Fairly certain you can buy smaller ones rather than the traditional pistol grip ones.

For braiding sata afaik you don't split anything, the braid should expand enough to slip it over the connectors, then heat-shrink as usual.

Ive got a pen style iron, but it gets very hot very quick, which is why Im abit wary of trying it incase I slip and damage something.

Its not a sata cable, its the sata power cable. On the Corsair modular PSU cables, the sata power is like a molex cable, but I cant find any way of splitting the cable from the connector so I can slip the braid over unless I cut the cable (which I might do anyway to have less cable mess in the rig)

ahhh sata power, sorry I managed to miss that part on your OP. Pop to B&Q and get a small heat blow gun, most will even come with small racks for holding the cable for you.

As for splitting the sata power cable, haven't a clue tbh :(

I think I know what you mean, you want to take the one that goes into the hdd's off not the end that goes into PSU?

If so, and it is the same as my ax850 then have a look at the bad of the plug there should be a join of the plug and the backing. Get a small flat bladed screw driver and pop off the back of the plug and you then should be able to pull the wires.

To put it back together just push the wires back into to sata plug (this is a right PITA if you are moving the plug as you need to push down hard enough to get the metal in the plug to slice the wires insulation) and clip the back in place.

Edit: To close to the box? I assume you men the plastic connector that clips into the psu? If so then the same way you do any cable as, as far as I am aware, they are the normal pins in those connectors also so you can just take them out, heat shrink it and clips them back in place. If you haven't already, check out my guide in the sticky at the top of the sub form :)

On the HX620, it has the 24pin and 8 pin power connectors straight into the PSU (as I thought most were?) and I want to braid those cables to match, but I dont want to go too close to the box incase I break something.

Basically looks like

|PSUinnards=|====
The | are the box case and the = are the power cables which go through the box.
I think Ive found a guide that shows how to do it easily.

Whoops, serves me right for assuming all their modular psu's were fully modular. Glad you found guide though :) if the link isn't a competitor can I have the link and I will edit into the sticky guide.

Im currently wading my way through it, so Ill check it for any competitor references and post it up if its suitable.
