Are there any advantages to buying a 4gb console and then getting a seperate drive? So in effect you have the xbox os on solid state and put all your games on the HD?

No not really. There are so many deals on the 250GB console these days that you might as well just get one from the outset.

Agreed. Just get the 250gb, unless the 4gb is an amazing deal (which it won't be).

You will need at least 20gb drive wise.

No. First of all, the price difference between a 4GB version and the one that comes with a 250GB HDD isn't as great as the price difference between getting the 4GB console and a separate X360 HDD; and secondly, regular HDD prices are through the roof at the moment (not that you would get one over the official X360 HDD anyway), so unless you have a spare 2.5" HDD lying around, it would be an enormous waste of money.

Quick answer: it's not worth it; just get a 250GB console.

Is 250GB enough though once you've downloaded a few games/dlc/patches and installed a few off disc?

massively plenty. It's the biggest they do.

And now you have cloud storage for bits and bobs.

320gb (GOW3) is the biggest I beleive 'officially'.

I got a 4gb for £100, and got a 250gb for £30 seperately.

Exact same spec now as a 250gb console, except it's glossy and not matte.

No difference performance wise, and plenty of space.

The glossy consoles were 250GB models in the first place.
