Hi, This is my first post here, so firstly, i apologise if I screw up any standard etiquette for posting here.

I recently built (with the help of a lanky friend) my first PC, and for the most part is does work, when i get it running, it does function as it should. However there are some strange start up issues, which i think are down to the Motherboard.

1)When I push the power button, about 70% of the time, the PC will burst into life, all the fans lights come on etc. (sounds like they are on full whack), and after about 5 or 6 seconds, the whole machine powers down, and when the fans have come to almost a stand still, the machine turns itself back on again, and then behaves as normal. It never does this any other time, only when i first start up

2)When i start up, the ASUS bios image appears twice, once almost immediately (pressing DEL doesn't enter the bios here - despite what it says), then it goes through the boot order etc. and jsut before it is about to start windows, the ASUS image flashes up again (this time pressing DEL will get you into the bios)

3)After about 6 seconds after pressing the power button, the motherboard makes a noise on it's internal speaker (though i'm fairly certain this is it saying the POST test is complete

4)The most worrying and annoying issue - when i start up, approximately, 50% of the time, the MemOK! warning light comes on, and stays on, when this happens the machine doesn't start - it doesn't go through BIOS or anything. My memory is seemingly installed ok, and the components all work fine, on the 50% of the time this doesn't flash up. The only way i know hwo to clear it, is to turn it off and turn it on again, after which this usually won't happen again. However, occasionally if it passes up the memory light, the TPU warning light will stay on, this will light the computer start, however just before it starts windows, I get an 'American Megatrends' bios screen error saying overclocking failed. (My CPU is overclocked to 4.8GHz but it's stable and tested it for 26hours on Prime95), occasionally this light would stay on even before i overclocked it though, also oddly enough this will sometimes clear itself if you leave it long enough, but i still have ot power down and back up again to clear this problem

5)Lastly - upon starting up, and going through the bios, everytime without fail, it tells me 'No Disk Detected!', I have an OCZ Agility 3 SATA-III 120GB SSD in there, and it functions fine, this bios error has seemingly no impact, it passes over it everytime without problem and the SSD works fine in use as well, but it does worry that this shows up everytime, when clearly there is a disk installed.

Sorry for the tyrade of issues, but i'd definitely appreciate any help solving them...you know how it is with new computers, when you get a new one you just want everything to work beautifully...

My Setup is in my sig.

In response to your questions : -

1. Update the BIOS to the latest version, download the latest version off the Asus website and create a folder in the root of your C or whatever you have called your main drive and put the ROM file in there. Navigate to the file through the BIOS flash from there. That will more than likely solve the restart issue.
2. You can turn the image display off again through the BIOS.
3. POST beeps are normal, I have never noticed it on mine but it probably beeps once.
4. No idea on this one sorry.
5. You need to turn off the two controllers that are present on the MB that you arent using. If you are using conventional drives or are using a RAID 0 you will need to turn off the (Max ?well ?) and the (JMB ? something) controllers via the BIOS. This will then stop the messages appearing and make you boot up quicker.

I would get your lanky friend to give you a hand playing around in the BIOS if you dont know what you are doing can have disastrous affects.

Wow thanks dan, i'll give that lot a go, i'm moving out this weekend for a bit ,so i will try it some point over the next couple of weeks and let you know, thanks a lot!

Beowulf, so far the most i have in the way of answers is dan's post above... but rebuilding your system completely fixed your issues? which would suggest it's something to do with the actual connections made or something?
