PC + TV speakers?

Hey guys,

So I have been thinking about buying a new set of speakers. I posted a while ago asking about good PC speakers but I am thinking that I should also use them for my TV as well, because they are always going to be better than the internal TV speakers.

So I am thinking 2.1? As it is only a bedroom and I think 5.1 will be a bit overkill! What would you guys suggest for both PC and TV?

Thanks :)

5.1 is only a viable option if you can place them properly. Your money will buy you better 2.1 speakers, than it would 5.1.

What are you wanting to spend?

Depends if you after the best sound quality you can get for your money, or whether you want something that's pretty bassy.

Edifier R1600T stereo speakers will offer the best sound quality, compared to anything else you can buy for up to £100, but they will obviously lack the amount of bass you will get from a 2.1 set of speakers.

If you do want speakers that offer more bass for films and games, then probably Logitech Z523.

Edifier's will be better for music, unless you listen to bass heavy music.

Thanks for your response again. I think 2.1 will be better for a TV though wouldn't they?

Thinking about it, you are probably right. Edifier's are probably better suited being connected to a sound card, rather than a TV, especially if using a headphone connection on the TV.

The cheapest speakers with optical connection, cost over £100. They are stereo. Cheapest 2.1 speakers with optical connection, probably £200+.

You could get a DAC (digital to analogue converter), that will take the optical from the TV, and output analogue stereo. To which you would connect speakers of your choice. That just adds extra cost though. If you have RCA/phono out, or headphone out, better to use that.

Yes, those Onkyo's are very good. Allows you to have 2.1, with plenty of connections at a reasonable cost. There are also connections to add more speakers, so you can turn it into a 5.1 system.
