Hi guys,

Sorry to be a bore, I'm sure you get quite a few of these types of threads!

Basically I'm looking at getting the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Firstly, is 24 months too long of a time to have a phone? One of my friends is telling me to "never go for a 24 month contract" but the 18 month contracts on the Galaxy Nexus are so expensive.

Surely a Galaxy Nexus would last 2 years anyway no probs?

Any opinions on this? Also does anyone know the best place to get one of these on contract?

edit: Also, what type of data usage are people using on these? I guess the majority of time I can use wifi at home, but when I'm out of the house I'll use it for facebook/web browsing and maybe a few youtube vids?

After having a 24 month contract, i can safely say, i will never be doing it again. It's just too long, 18 months is perfect.

Depends how much you like new technology also, if you're like my mum, i'm pretty sure she wouldn't care if it's for 2 years.

For me, I had an iPhone 3G for 3 years, so I don't think a 24 month contract is a problem. I signed up for a 24 month contract the November just gone with a Galaxy Note, which I can see me being happy with for 2 years.

It depends on the person tbh. I get bored of my phones after just a couple of months, and then get a new one. I'm 3 months into my 12-month contract and already have a new phone on the way and my current one up for sale :/

Unless technology gets amazingly better in the next 2 years I can probably see myself being happy with a Galaxy nexus?

24 months is like £35/month but then it can shoot up to £50/month on 18 months...

I guess it might also be worth looking at buying the handset+sim only contract.

Do you need a lot of minutes and texts? 35 is a lot unless you are using Lots

Need maybe 200 mins, 500 texts, 500/750/1gb data? (I'm a bit clueless on how much data I need)

Do you know of a better deal?

Let me just look where i got mine

Edt. Not with 500 mins, lucky for me i dont use many minutes,so i got mine for about 25£ per month, but with less mins and texts

A Galaxy Nexus will comfortably last you two years. I can't see anything happening on the software front that the hardware in the Nexus won't be able to handle with ease, perhaps if they release some really taxing games you may have a problem, but it's doubtful.

For actual deals, look no further than here, they seem to be the cheapest and are a decent company as well - http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus/30,85948,All,tt1,ct1

Yes, they absolutely ARE reputable. I'd say they are better than the Carphone Warehouse and certainly P4U.

These things are in fairly low supply and are selling very well, so they will be in and out of stock unfortunately. Just order and wait. :)

Honestly this decision comes down to how much you can afford and your desire to have the latest and greatest. For 6 months you'll be punished to the tune of around an extra £100 or so over the TCO of the the contract. Just work around the various TCOs for different deals and find one you're happy with to be honest.
