Hi,

I've bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas but want to know what else I need with it. We won't have wifi on Christmas where we'll be but can we buy books off the computer and then connect to the Kindle?

Also are there any accessories that are essential, recommended cases etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hello there!

I've bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas

Good call she will love it, my girlfriend kept stealing mine so I had to buy her one for her birthday!

but want to know what else I need with it.

The only other thing I would recommend getting is a case to protect it.

We won't have wifi on Christmas where we'll be but can we buy books off the computer and then connect to the Kindle?

Yep you can buy them online and just transfer them from you computer to the kindle via a USB connection.

Also are there any accessories that are essential, recommended cases etc.

As mentioned above a case is a good idea to protect it, there are loads available online so just have a browse and see what takes your fancy. I wouldn't spend too much on one and I personally wouldn't bother getting one with an integrated light, I've never been in a sitation where I would ever use it.

Thanks in advance!

No probs, enjoy the Kindle!

You can buy books on line from Amazon and download them to your kindle, although if you say you've not got Wifi, I hope you've got a wired connection, you can then transfer them from PC > Kindle via the cable.

Also; does your wife have an Amazon account? Might be worth getting her one so she can monitor and buy her own books. You'll have to de register the Kindle with your account and register it with hers (Really easy, did this when I got my Dad one)

I'd recommend a good case for it and a the charger that lets you plug it in to the wall :)

I take it, it's not the 3G model?

If it is, you can buy books over the built-in net connection (called whispernet) without using the USB cable or wifi.

Thanks for the replies! We'll be at my wife's mums for Christmas, has Internet just not a wireless one. I didn't want to open the kindle and set it up just so she'd have something to read on Christmas, so that's great.

Thanks again :)

IIRC you might need a wifi connection to set it up. I seem to remember having to do this via wifi when I got mine last Christmas. I could be wrong, but worth preparing for. Hopefully someone one here can clarify as it has been ages since I had to do it.
