Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
Sold windows 7 in MM, gave buyer account details.

All fine, got email confirmation from buyer to say money has been sent during the day. Got home to check...no money, check email.

Bah, gave 1 digit wrong in the account number, curse me for sending that at 1am and sleepy :(

This has NEVER happened before, I always double check the numbers, the one time I didn't! :(:(:(

I will honour the sale of course as It was my fault, but what are the chances of the money going back to the sender? Obviously there is no way of knowing that and I am hoping if the money goes back he will send it to me again in the correct details. It's Christmas ! :)

Haha just seen you post this on FB.

Your best bet is to hope that he is an honest person, and if the money comes back to him, he sends it to you!

Depends on his trust I guess but I reckon most that buy and sell here are honourable.

I think if the account number is wrong, itll bounce right away.. of course though you won't know but you can always ask the bank.. though i think anything like this is still on his side to sort out!

I'm not 100% sure. But with the sort code and account number not matching there would be a good chance at a guess.

^^ THIS ^^

The banks put a "check" in place for circumstances like this. If the account number and sort code do not tally up then the payment does not go through. If, of course, you are unfortunate for the person to have the same sort code as you then this will not happen :o

The chances of that are slim though.

Edit: My source is from the bank as I have done similar in the past and contacted them to ask about it. They stated what I have said above...

Yeah pretty much.

If the account number and name don't match, the money will be returned to the sender (with a fee to the sender).

Get sender to ring bank and cancel/reverse the transaction?

That would be the OP.

You are an idiot, even if it's your first time! But then everyone makes mistakes at some point.

unless the OP bought the item off himself no it wouldn't.

Looks like all is well, buyer called bank and it is unlikely someone with my name has that account number and sort code so he will resend me the money, minus a small sum for the phone call from his mobile as he was on hold for 10 mins.

I am happy with that :)
