Whats the best, most cost effective way of doing this?

Just want to watch whats on my upstairs box on a TV downstairs in as good quality as poss.

Is this possible?

Yes. The easiest way is with a TV link. SD pictures and control of the box as well. Worst picture quality, mono sound too.

A HDMI splitter will transfer HD pictures but won't give you control.

is it possible to have a 2nd sky box in the bedroom and this would alow you to change the channel from the main box in the lounge? I understand you would need to watch the same channel in both rooms but would the box in the bedroom change the channel in the lounge?

The second box wouldn't work in the way you want. It would only give you the the basic FreeSat version of the Freeview channels after you've bought the one-off FreeSat card (£20 from Sky)

Cheapest way to get Sky from the main lounge box and have some control is with an RF cable from Sky box RF2 output and stick a Sky Eye on the end of it.

If you want better quality than the aerial signal then you need to add either a HDMI splitter & long HDMI cable or a long SCART lead.

Yeah I think I'm going downt he route of a HDMI splitter

I just did this with the Sky HD Box.

HDMI Splitter (off the Bay for £20) 10 metre HDMI cable and an RF cable with Magic Eye, voilla... Now have Sky HD in bedroom as well as living room. Works surprisingly well!

If you don't have HD at least get a Scart or composite the quality on RF is shocking.
