Hi guys,

Are those car cigarette lighter powered vacuums any good?

I like to keep the interior of my car immaculate, would be good if I could keep a vacuum in the car!

What would you recommend?

Cheers! :)

Vacum it out every weekend with a proper mains powered vac.

12v (and 24V ones) are crap.

/thread.

Think about it logically. Even the majority of proper vacuum cleaners are crap, so the chances of anything hand held, either battery or 12/24v is going to be rubbish.

This is why the dustbuster failed to penetrate the majority of homes.

Don't muck about with piddly rechargeable vacs or 12V ones, why would you really need to clean a car on the move? Get a proper manly mains cord Vac. I have an Electrolux Z61A Stair & Car, it's a beast :D.

Has a mechanical brush to get stuff out of deep pile mats, doesn't have much in the way of fiddly accessories but it's heavy duty, reliable and POWERFUL.

The dyson car ones are damn good but you need to be quick you get about 6mins on the older models lol.

The new handheld dysons are pretty good, you get ten to fifteen mins out of it which is a long time spent actually vacuuming, its trigger operated so you can't leave it on and drain the battery. Less of a chore than having to get the vacuum out, extension cable etc, just pick it up off the charging stand and go.

I was skeptical at first but we have a dc35 as our only vacuum and its possible to do the whole unit with it easily on one charge and it has plenty of power. Decent batter.ies are the key, imagine cheap copies to have nicad or nimh cells that won't last.

If you care about cleaning the car you prob care enough about cleaning the house to own a proper vacuum cleaner. Buy a 25m extension reel, itl be cheaper than a car vacuum and the end result 100x better.

I have a 12v Electrolux "Dustbuster" style vac that is just about usable; I've cleaned out my car a few times with it when it wasn't convenient to string out extension leads etc. but it's hard going compared to my workshop vacuum cleaner.

Just use a proper one at home - you're never going to get decent power out of the 12V one... or you could drain the heck out of your battery by using an inverter with it :p
