Anger at public transport

Pffft, I've been using the Northern and Central lines daily for the past 4 years (7 for Central actually) and for the past 2 years I have had no memorable issues getting to work beyond the big snow time.

Glad I don't use the District or Piccadilly lines, they seem to have major issues every week.

People who moan about London public transpoty (I can't comment on the rest of the country) have clearly never lived in a country were public transport consists of 4 bus routes running on 1 hour intervals, 2 commuter train lines, and a myriad of unlicensed mini-cab drivers.

You realise groen is from SA too right? (clue is in the name):p

I can sympathise with tube users.. Not something I'd ever like to do again tbh and busses are just as bad..

I have no complaints about the rail system. Sure, sometimes it goes wrong and your stuffed for a few hours but then that's not too different from using a car which in my opinion is worse.. breakdowns, accidents, road works causing tailbacks. Even relatively small comutes have their problems.. At least on the train you can sit back have read, watch a movie etc.. It really depends on how you take it. I've been commuting too long to let it get to me and I cycle to the station to avoid the busses.

Public transport is a necessary evil. However take heart in the fact that in 100 years there'll be individual pods flying people everywhere to their destinations, all powered by tiny fusion reactors.

If only there was some sort of scheme where you could borrow a cycle from a location in London, ride it to another location and leave it there for someone else to borrow, all for a reasonable cost. It would be great because you wouldn't have to use the tube so much.

But most people are far too fat and lazy to do that. This isn't Holland you know.:p

The delays yesterday getting to london to work was so annoying but this thing seems to happed at least twice a week. Its so annoying that i have to pay so much money on travel and the service is rubbish.

there's a world of difference between long distance train travel and commuter train travel

lonmg distance train travel, especially first class, is a wonderful, civilised way to go about the world.

commuter train travel can **** off.

There are not many things that can get me as angry as public transport. But the trains can make me so angry that i want to destroy something. Anything that makes me angry enough to want to vandalise property has to be broken or I must have some anger issues.

The buses are no better, never on ******* time, not reliable.

The trains are the worst though, this morning I almost lost it.

It's the cost of public transport that annoys me. My train company has increased fares by circa 6% each year for the last 3 years. In that time, my salary has increased 0%. The trains are constantly late, and I often have to stand because all the seats are taken. In a time when people just aren't getting any salary increases, I think the Government should have prevented the companies from raising fares at all.

It now costs me £3300 a year just to make the 35 mile journey into London.

Sucks to be me I guess :(

The overground is too full, too cold (no heating), no personal space, sitting or standing, it would be illegal to transport animals so close to each other, trains are slow and it always stinks or someone is sick, coughing in my face, **** on their phones.

I'm quite fortunate in that my journey in to work doesn't rely on me getting the Tube often, it's only on odd occasions that I have to get it apart from at the weekends. However I almost always find the exact opposite in relation to the temperature - it's almost invariably too warm on the Tube whether just going into the station or in the carriage itself, I suppose occasionally the heating won't be working and then it might be a bit cool but that's irregular enough to barely constitute an issue worth mentioning.

I would agree about it being very full and not a pleasant experience but it's pretty damn quick and efficient - try considering the complexity of the Tube network and it's more remarkable that it works as often and as well as it does rather than the other way round.

I'm in awe of the Tube network as a transport facility, it's not without its problems and I'm glad I don't have to use it often but it is pretty amazing when you consider how many people use it and most of the downsides are an inevitable consequence of trying to transport that many people through limited capacity in a limited space of time.

OP, while I think you maybe are taking it a little too seriously, I feel your pain. My local service (London Midland) has just changed to their "winter timetable". As far as I can tell, this means exactly the same timetable, catering to exactly the same number of people (in fact probably more since people who would normally walk/cycle are now taking the train due to the cold/dark), but with less carriages. My train which was 3 carriages, is now 2... and it was packed before! I actually had to force my way on this morning.

With regards timekeeping... well, I think in the last 4 months, it's been on time about once/week.

The only thing I don't have a gripe about is the cost - with a monthly season ticket it's actually quite reasonable, but I still can't wait until my tenancy is up and I can move somewhere closer to work so I can walk/drive/cycle.

How far do you live from your workplace? Have you thought about cycling? If the lights are green I can cycle to my workplace in 30 minutes whereas using the trains will take me around 45 minutes.
