Hello there,
I am currently looking for a new graphics card and figured I would come to these forums with my questions. I am from austria and my budget for a new graphics card would be around 300€.
First of all, I'd like to say that I prefer Nvidia over AMD, so please do not recommend an AMD that maybe is even better for a cheaper price.
I currently have a GTS 250 512mb and think that its time for me to upgrade.

I am looking at a Model of the GTX 560 Ti Ultracharged Edition with the following specs at 285€:
2048 MB GDDR5, active Cooling
PCI-E 2.0 16x, 2x DVI (Dual Link), mini-HDMI
GPU Clock: 910MHz; Memory Clock: 4008MHz; 256Bit
Stream-Processors: 384; Shader Clock: 1820MHz
Shader Model 5.0, DirectX 11.0, PhysX, SLI-ready

and a GTX 570 with the following specs at 300€:
1280 MB GDDR5, active Cooling
PCI-E 2.0 16x, 2x DVI (Dual Link), HDMI, DP
GPU Clock: 732MHz; Memory Clock: 3800MHz; 320Bit
Stream-Processors: 480; Shader Clock: 1464MHz
Shader Model 5.0, DirectX 11.0, PhysX, SLI-ready

Which one would you recommend me?

The rest of my systems specs are:
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9450 @2,66Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Power supply: 750W

I am also looking forward to upgrade my mainboard, CPU and RAM during the next year, but for now the graphics card has to go first.

The reason for this upgrade now is, that I am getting bf3 and the beta left me unimpressed with my current setup. I simply want to boost the graphics a bit. My desired resolution would be 1680x1050 and I am not planning on getting a new monitor with FullHD resolution, incase that matters for any of these graphic cards.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day
-0cube

570 would probably be the better choice at that resolution. The 560ti could be the better buy though, really hard to call. I Myself would probably go with the 2gb card for longevity.

You are however linking to other competitor sites even if they are EU based I think that's against the rules still

I'd have the GTX570, simply because it's most likely got the more headroom for overclocking.

However, your comment about ATI seems quite stupid when you consider that £250 will get you an HD6970, which is the best of both worlds (GTX570 power, with 2GB VRAM). :)

A 570 and 2GB of VRAM for that res? Lol, slight overkill........

Even a 6870 is perfectly fine for that res.

Have a quick read through this thread and the links I have posted, same applies to you in some ways except, if you are diff going to be sticking to 1680x1050 as you have said then a normal 560TI 1GB will be perfectly good and if you really must get a better card, get the MSI 560TI 448 edition, just as good as a 570 and performs better than a 570 when overclocked a bit more, however much better in terms of noise, temps and power draw (if you care about them)

I can't see games for PC getting any more demanding than BF 3, crysis 2 and metro 2033 in the future until the next consoles are out, apart from the very rare one, maybe........

That may be true, but its just a personal preference. I have worked with amd cards before when visiting my dad/uncle, and i simply do not like them.

I am not looking to overclock the card until its necessary (ie if they just cant handle games on minimum requirements, but until that day i'll have a new one anyways.)
So, without any overclocking on my side, which of the cards would you guys prefer?
And could you elaborate why 2gb of vram for my resolution would be an overkill? I am not that much of an expert, but trying to learn all the things relating to hardware.

Even still with no overclocking, I take the 560TI 448 edition everyday, however since you are only on 1050 res, a normal 560TI 1GB would be good and a fair bit cheaper.

Because there is no/hardly any difference in FPS (apart from min FPS with the less powerful cards like the 560TI IF you have a lot of AA applied and remember that a 560TI is not the recommended card to max out BF 3 fully, so that is why it suffers more in the min FPS etc. with AA applied, not because it only has 1GB of VRAM as the more powerful card overall [448 edition] does much better yet it only has 1280MB of VRAM) at any res below 1920x1200.

Look at these graphs (taken from this review http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...idia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-448-cores-review.html) for your res and you can see the difference.........between 1 and 2GB cards and you can also see how a normal 560TI compares to the 448 edition:

And now when you apply a fair bit of AA:

GTX-560-448-33.jpg

And crysis 2:

You can also use that review and this one http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-560-ti-448-core-benchmark,3082.html to decide if the 560TI 448 edition is worth the extra over the normal 560TI.

Get the MSI 560ti Twin FrozrII 1GB. Fantastic card. I play bf3, crysis2 and most gamas released in the last year @ 1920x1080 and have had no problems. All settings high.

Okay, so i found 2 gtx560ti 448 cards here:
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores Limited Edition, retail, 1280MB
active Cooling (1fan), PCI-E 2.0 16x, 2x DVI (Dual Link), 1x HDMI, 1x DP
GPU Clock: 765MHz; Memory Clock: 3800MHz; 320Bit
Stream-Processors: 448; Shader Clock: 1530MHz
Shader Model 5.0, DirectX 11.0, PhysX, SLI-ready
=260€

And the ASUS ENGTX560Ti448DC2/2DIS/1280MD5, retail, 1280MB
active Cooling (2 fans), PCI-E 2.0 16x, 2x DVI (Dual Link), HDMI, DP
GPU Clock: 732MHz; Memory Clock: 3800 MHz; 320bit
Stream-Processors: 448; Shader Takt: 1464MHz
Shader Model 5.0, DirectX 11.0, PhysX, SLI-ready
=300€ (same price as the gtx570 in the OP)

For some reason the cheaper card seems more powerful to me, or am i missing something?

EDIT:
I found another one which seems even better for 280€:
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti *** 448 Cores, 1.25GB GDDR5
GPU: Clock: 797MHz, Memory Clock: 950MHz, Shader Clock: 1594MHz
Chip: GF110, 320-bit
Stream-Processors: 448, Shader Model: 5.0

Oh and all of them appear to have "Dual slot"... What does that mean? do i need 2 PCIe x16 slots? the pictures of the cards only seem to need one...
