Confused. Help me chose my next car...

2006 FORD MONDEO 2967 cc 3.0 V6 ST220

Agreed. What's the economy like? Also won't this be in the £460 tax band? Unless I find a one registered before 23rd March 2006 of course....

It was registered 7 days too late so sadly it is £445 a year to tax. This would annoy me to death every time I taxed it, its so close to being £260 a year.

I think they are excellent cars personally. I'm suprised you like it though as it looks as near as makes no difference the same as the Zetec-S somebody else posted for £3k and you said that looked horrible? Thats whats so good about the Zetec-S - they look almost the same as an ST220 but have more modest running costs (Though are exceptionally rare indeed in 2 litre form, most of them are ticking timebomb diesels or pointless 2.5 V6's, you may as well get the ST220 if you were going to get a V6 Zetec-S).

Economy wise though the ST220 isn't going to be night and day different to your Focus ST.

Yes this would annoy me too! Will have to find one that was registered before the cut off date.

The zetec s posted didn't really stand out for me. Looked like it was on stilts, and the interior doesnt match the ST220. The cheaper runnings costs of the 2.0 would be appealing though.

Rossk26, get the £5k Audi.

But please come back in 12 months and tell us how it is holding up.

That should settle the argument.

Personally, If you want to release money into your house and have another car then buy Japanese, job done.

But all these mud slinging and wild assumptions that you might get lucky with a reliable old car are just that, assumptions.

Go sell the focus for £10k, and prove us wrong that you can get £10k for it, and then prove us wrong that a 8 years old Audi is bullet proof.

P.s. my dad's 51 plate A6(60k miles on the clock) threw up a £890 bill a few months back, it's not the engine, something to do with the steering and a few other bits.

Food for thought eh?

But surely that's 4 years down the line as the A4 is newer :D
