Hi all, build for my mate, he has lowerd it from 900quid to this build. i seen some other options that could save a little more so advise on the build+saving ideas is welcome and again if you see something he could get for a bit more that would be loads better please say that also.

it will be used for gaming and streaming and has everything else like mouse/keyboard screen etc and will one day buy a ssd etc when more cash

MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £179.99

Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 650W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXV2UK) £79.99

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £79.99

Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.98

BitFenix Shinobi Gaming Windowed Case - Black £56.99

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £39.95

Now with the weekly sale I have seen some other options that could save him a little bit but i really want to know if they are better or not.

For ram rather then 8gig kingston i could go with
Kingston HyperX Genesis 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel (KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX) £29.99
would say 10 quid but lower ram so for gaming and streaming should he go with the 6gig or the 8

the Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz oem is on sale, but i cant see anyway to save money buy buying a fan compare to the retail [no overclocking yet but maybe later on in life]

and lastly the powersupply
I dont know if the xfx are better then the coraisr one but
XFX Pro 850W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply would be the same price however 250W's more

or
XFX 650W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply saving 9quid

thanks for any feedback, should be buying tonight :)

You don't want 3 sticks of RAM in a Sandy Bridge system.

Sandy Bridge uses a dual channel memory controller so the best performance will be with 2 or 4 sticks.

Plonking 3 sticks in won't give you triple channel it'll just mess up the dual channel operation.

from what he says, he wont ever go sli/crossfire

also will the psu be fine for
Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket LGA2011/1366/1155/1156/775/AM2/AM3)?

he is just looking at some options

Stick with the orginal RAM. It is dual channel where as the latter is tripple channel and is designed for Intel LGA1366 not 1155.

I'd personally buy an aftermarket cooler now rather than mess around at a later date. Might not be needed for overclocking immediately but will be quieter than the stock Intel fan. Could get the OEM and a gelid tranquillo cooler for example.

given that the motherboard won't do sli, no need for a 750-850w psu. xfx make quality psu's, their basically rebraned seasonic units. i would go with the cheaper one.

xfx 650w xxx edition modular '80 plus silver' power supply. also it's modular, where as the corsair tx650w isn't and as the case has a side window on it, it'll look neater.

this psu is a bit cheaper, modular and gets some very good reviews.

it seems he is in love with Corsair PC Starter Bundle 3000c - 650D Case / TX 650W V2 PSU / H60 CPU Cooler (Cooler Half Price)

he feels nothing beats it on case looks so much bigger then ie sninobi etc so unless someone can say a big case cheaper let him know

would say something like

would have said the 912 or something to save money but it wouldn't be 'big enough'.

you should always go modular on psu, it just makes sense.... who wants piles of cables cluttering around... if the bundle doesn't include it i'd get a different bundle. shame there's no option of an extra fiver for modular though :p
