Okay guys/girls as the topic states which one should I get ? I'm more into photography then the video side of these cameras.

Currently I own a Canon 300D on the digital SLR's and some proper Canon 35mm Film cameras. I used the Canon 300D for about 2 weeks max and its been in its box since and I took probably no more then 300-400 shots with it and got tired of it being too basic, the quality was nice for general photos and to me that was about it really (will sell this soon I think or may keep it as a spare DSLR for just regular blaa blaa pics).

I own a good few Canon lenses (prime and non-prime) and a couple of Canon flashes 550EX and a 580EX, so I want to stay with Canon because of this investment so please no Nikon stuff.

Also I would like the boby only of these cameras or with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit if the prices are right. So if you have a good place to buy at a good price please let me know too and what sort of prices you are finding for the 60D and 7D.. My heart says buy the 7D but my pocket is saying go for the 60D but then I keep remembering it has 9 point auto focus and the 7D has 19 point and has focus tracking which would be great for moving subjects.

Also just to add I do this for my own pleasure and not for work or anything and I have a very good eye for detail people tell me and I'm very easily put off by a product that does not do everything I want, as with the 300D that ended up back in the box after under 2 weeks use :(.. It's a great Camera don't get me wrong just not for me and I was always more a 35mm sort of person and loved what I could do with film of different ISOs and a good camera.

So convince me which one to get and if you are a user of a 60D or 7D please let me know how you are getting on with them and what your thoughts are on each. Also important part if you could let me know of a good place and price to grab one of these cameras from.

I upgraded from the 40D to a 7D and two things that I found great is the better AF and the wireless flash control built in to the body. Bonus was I didn't have to change memory types and maintained using CF memory cards rather than switching to SD card.

To be honest I'll still be happy with the 40D right now but there was a deal at the time with a lens I wanted so I couldn't resist. The deal was on Amazon.com where a combination of Canon rebates meant upgrading to the 7D was only ~$100 after selling the 40D and the lens I wanted was reduced by ~$400 off the regular price (Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS II).

I do not know what lenses you have, but if there are still lens you want I'd rather go for the 60D and spend on lenses. The actual sensor of the 60D and 7D are exactly the same. so image quality should be similar. The 60D has a swivel LCD screen bonus. I wouldn't bother with the kit lens unless you intend to sell it.

In work at the mo, so not got time for a full breakdown. I've got a 60D and it's a good camera, and I can't say I've had any focusing issues that people would suggest a move to the 7D regarding. I've not used a 7d so can't compare the two.

The one thing that bugs me a LOT with the 60D is the noise handling. I've no idea if it's related to mp count & the sensor, but my 30D didn't have anywhere near as much noise. I now have an extra step in my workflow when processing, and god it's annoying in low light, as it suddenly looks like you've ramped up the ISO to something silly.

It's really starting to annoy me so much I'm thinking of selling it when I get the 5D mkIII and keeping the 30D as backup.

Given your little usage of your 300D, I'd say you have to decide yourself whether buying a new camera is going to make you want to take photos more, once the initial 'honeymoon' period wears off.

If you don't think you will, you may as well go for the cheaper option.

2 weeks with a 300d? and you want a new one? sounds like a waste of money if you dont actually use it. taking photos is taking photos, doesnt neccessarily matter what tools your using. ( in a loose sense before any fanboy starts crying bc he thinks I just compared a 1D to a 1000D)

Guys I do take a lot of photos, the 300D was the first consumer dSLR that didn't need a mortgage to buy at the time, I do use a Canon EOS 1V that I got back in 2003-2004 from a photographer friend really cheap because he was moving onto Digital Pro cameras, I think he purchased a couple of EOS 1D Mark II's back then to replace the film cameras he was using.

I hope now you understand why I thought the 300D was very basic compared to the film camera I normally use when I use an SLR camera. The 300D just didn't live up to my hopes, I have used his Pro gear and love the stuff he has and I do try get him to lend me his pro DSLRs to play with and I was surprised how much they have got better recently, this is why I am now looking at trying again to go Digital on my SLRs again. Only reason I am not looking at the 5D Mark ii is because he had 2 go wrong on him and I really don't mind the 1.6 crop factor this is why I was thinking 60D or 7D and of all things the crop factor comes as an advantage for me and saves me on buying more expensive zoom lenses for the type of photos I like to take.

The types of photos I like to take are of fast moving subjects normally, wildlife and airplanes. I found the 300D just couldn't catch pictures like this very well and this is why I stopped using it and put it back in the box with the intention of selling it but forgot all about it until recently. I have a couple of click and shoot digital cameras one Sony and a Canon that are great pocket cameras for times you don't want to carry the SLR or for just regular photos.

Did a bit more reading up on both the 60D and 7D today and it seems for the type of pictures I like to take the 7D wins hands down.. Now the real question is anyone know a good place to buy one from and at a good price please... My partner is having a heart attack everytime I take her into Jessops and looking at these cameras... I don't even want to show her the cost of the lenses I have... maybe I should then she would treat them with more care grr..

Thanks for the feedback guys, just let me know of somewhere where I can get a good priced 7D with EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit or without, the reason I wanted the kit lens was because I was thinking to keep the 300D and give that to my partner to use and not allow her then to mess with my expensive lenses.

Great points :), true I do have a few CF cards here and the wireless flash control seems fantastic on the 7D and didn't even realise it had that :D, now I can use both my speedlights to fire from the camera and without a flash controller :D.

Lenses I have a lot at the moment and will probably try reducing some of them or updating them to better ones. This is one of the reasons I said Canon only camera because I have a lot of lenses and extras that only work on Canon cameras.

Upgrading to either a 60D or 7D from a 300D will be a great improvment either way. Personaly id pick the 7D for the extra features id myself use + the fact I dont like the idea of a folding viewscreen.

Id reccomend checking this site before you buy any camera stuff to check the cheapest price possible http://www.camerapricebuster.com/

Bought my 7d from Digitalrev to replace my 500D. It was cheaper to buy with memory card and spare battery than body only in this country.

Its a great camera body. Feels sturdy, great focusing, lots and lots of options, great image quality and iso handling. Had it a month now and im still reading the manual and learning how it likes to be handled.

Id go into a camera shop and give both a whirl.

Any particular reason why your not considering a used 5Dmk1 instead of these two camera's, are you mainly concerned about video rather than image quality?

Also a D7000 is better than both the 60D and 7D for still's, so that's worth considering if your not heavily invested in Canon.

I have a 7d as an upgrade from a 500d. It has made a remarkable difference to my running shots mainly due to its larger buffer and faster burst. I have little interest in the artistic side and only dabble with portrait stuff, although I do like architecture. It is a great, flexible camera and feels good to use.

 They never learn mate, you would think he would contact the OCUK admin and get an official account that may actually be good for this section for him to help out on.

If it was Kai then I'm surprised, perhaps it was someone else there like Julia.
Back on topic about where to buy, the important thing IMO is to have a UK warranty which Digitalrev may or may not do.
Some overseas vendors insist the body is returned to them for repair if a fault occurs.
Have you had a look at Kerso over at TP, also on the bay as FlashCamera.
Excellent prices with a UK receipt.
