been offered 2 6950's 4 crimbo on fathers business account. should i snap it up or not? what with the 7900 series being released soon.

Most people would hope for a 70%-80% increase on a 6970 from a 7970 so it probably will be not far off a 6990 but this is just a guess.

I don't think the 7970 will be that impressive, We're talking about AMD here the same people who gave us Bullsh%%tdozer, I think we will have to wait and see, But i'm not holding my breath, Not this time..

I think it will be impresive, they have had 2 years to get it right(as 69 series was just a slight respin of existing hardware), before you say BD had umpteen years, AMD's cpu and gpu teams are separate.

4870 to 5870 saw double performance, so I imagine you are looking at the same with the 7 series, plus take into account it's looking like ~£400 for the 7970, so it's not that price for nothing!

In answer to the op, if they are indeed free, you'd be mad not too, if it's a case of getting them cheaper then I'd still go for it as Gibbo said here today it will be into March before we see the similar performing 78 series cards.

i would, CF 6950 will still be awesome when the 7xxx series are out, they wont stop paying games at incredible framerates :)

I don't know if you aware of this or not but AMD has different design teams for it's GPU's and x86 CPU's although you make a fair point in that Bulldozer has tarnished the brand somewhat. Besides the only problem with Bulldozer is price, if it were around the £100 you'd be all over it like Robbie Coltrane to a plate of chips.

I'd take them, especially if they are the MSI ones. they will outperform the 7970 in most cases were crossfire has scaling beyond 60%ish (guesswork). Resale should be £150 or more so that's not to bad if you have issues with xfire, taking into consideration there's probably a tax right off somewhere ;)
