560Ti (GF114) power requirements

Folks, I really want to upgrade my ageing GTX260 216, but I have some PSU concerns.

My PSU is great, high quality, but a bit dated by modern standards. It's an Enermax Liberty 620W. It can deliver a combined 36A on the 12V rails.

I know where I was looking at GF110 based cards (e.g. GTX580) this wasn't sufficient, but I haven't been able to find any power requirements for the 560Ti cards.

Does anyone know if my current PSU is sufficient?

I have put off buying a GTX580 because it would necessitate a new PSU as well.

Your PSU will be fine with a GTX560Ti, I have a pair in SLI with a i5 2500k and at stock the whole lot takes 400W from the wall. Assuming 85% efficiency and all at 12V that would be 340W or 28A.

That's 2 Ti cards

A single card will probably use a little less than your GTX260.

Thanks guys, not looking at the 448 version (which is GF110 and I know requires more power).

The incentive to look at the GF114 is that I might get away without having to buy a new PSU, which I'm reluctant to do as this one's been rock solid for about 7 years.

I'm running a 560ti on an antec 520w fine.

How many amps does it deliver on the 12V rail(s)?

Total power is not the issue here, my 620W was super massive awesome at the time it was released and it's still adequate for today's requirements except in one area: max current on the 12V rail.

BTW, for reference I just found out that the recommended current on the 12V rail for 560Ti (GF114, NOT GF110 560Ti 448) is 30A.

amps aren't the issue here either, if you have a power supply made in the past, 7-8 years then you have one focused primarily on 12v power, the amp ratings AREN'T required amps, nor required amps for the GPU alone, its a rough estimate on PSU's and factors in less good psu's and suggests a ultra safe rating.

A 620W anything from the past probably 7-8 years will be fine, and you wouldn't have an issue running a 448shader version either, not even close. You wouldn't have any trouble running a 580gtx on a 620W psu.

Thanks drunkenmaster. As I said I've sort of given up the idea of buying a GTX580 because all the specs recommended a PSU that could deliver 38A on the 12V.

On the assumption that my PSU will be fine with the GF110 448 core 560Ti, should I be looking at a 560Ti 448 with 1.3GB RAM, or a 560Ti with 2GB and clocking the snot out of it?

The thing is your PSU is 7 years old. If there are electrolytic capacitors in there, then aging can affect power output. If there are high kappa dielectric caps then capacitance may have changed over time. Then there is thermal aging in inductors and other conductors. Memory effect. Etc. It is unlikely it will still output its rated wattage/amperage.

That said, it is still likely it will handle a GTX 560Ti 448. I wouldn't bet on it, but if I were you I'd certainly get the card I want and worry aobut sufficient power later. Then again, I'm run a GTX 580 on a 550w PSU. I wouldn't recommend it as advice because though it's a risk I'd personally take ( I think the risk is low), you may not feel the same way. So think about it.
