HI All

Being a PC gamer for such a long time I have got used to the Mouse/Keyboard way of controlling games.

I tried Battlefield 3 on my computer but it would not run,but there was a way to assign different controls to different keys.

Can someone tel me if there is a way I can use the Pad and buttons on the PS3,and not have to use the Analogue Joysticks.

I don't want to shell out for the game, only to find I can't control it.

Thanks

Alan

I had to return to console for the same reason. I spent years playing the likes of CSS on PC and then returned to my PS3 due to refusing to folk out mega bucks for new PC parts.

I can think of no way you can avoid using the sticks, think about it....you use the left stick to move/strafe and then the right stick to aim so if your wanting to put all this to the D-PAD then as well as being pretty sure you cannot do it in game settings, if you could you will get your back side handed to you online.

I am a FPS PC gamer playing BF3 on my PS3 and I think im doing fine, you might just surprise yourself and be able to control it perfectly. Your game-sense will be the same on any platform and I will tell you now that your reaction times will drop because keyboard and mouse are second to non for shooters but.....The pad is not as bad as you might expect.

Sorry I cant give you a solid answer for changing the control settings (I will look when I get home from work if nobody else replies) but even if you cant, which I would imagine is the case....dont miss out on BF3, its quality!

Thanks for the reply.A long time ago when consoles first came out it used to be Pad L/R UP/Down to move, and X to fire.

I guess that's a bit too easy for todays games.

I would be grateful if you could check out the in game control options, you never know,I might get lucky.

Yeah I remember them days but FPS have become slightly more sophisticated than the limited controls we had back then :)

No problem, Alan can I just point out that in the world of consoles your question is just as bonkers as a noob coming onto any online PC shooter server and asking the regular players "can I use a control pad on this game" ;)

I will have a look when I get home if nobody replies first, not a problem. I would be very surprised if you can do it

The days of using the d-pad to control movement AND aiming as well as using X to fire weapons are long gone. I'm pretty sure on the original Playstation versions of Medal of Honor you had to hold down one of the shoulder buttons in order to be able to move the crosshair. Can you imagine trying to use such a control scheme these days? Just bite the bullet, practice with the controller and you'll become better. Everyone else has had to do it, nobody is ridiculously amazing or precise with a pad without practice.

Thanks Guys - Guess I was looking for the easy way out but as you say, everyone had to do it so I think I will have to find some patience from somewhere.

Alan

You'll need patience with the PS3 version anyway, the input lag is still an issue unfortunately. I've relegated it back to the shelf until DICE do their job and fix it.

Thanks for the replies,I think maybe I will look for an older version of a FPS in order to practise the controls.

I would not be happy spending £40+ on a new game, only to find it relegated to the not used shelf because I could not control it.

This is how I feel, I've shelved it until the PS3 version has patched the crap controls out as it feels like you're playing in porridge at the mo.

Try Call of Duty 4. :)

I'm happily playing MW3 & have made the switch from PC to PS3 in the last few months. COD engine may be old but that's why it plays as smooth as silk control wise.

Yeah it's very slick control-wise but I haven't played online for a few weeks as I really dislike the maps. I prefer Modern Warfare 2 if I'm honest. :)

Oh balls....I forgot to put BF3 on last night to look if you can actually change the controls for you.

I would go with what everyone is saying and attempt to move with the times. I think Killswitch is right, last game I remember the controls being like that was MOH.
