Internet Explorer: Microsoft plans 'silent' updates

Someone asked if I worked in IT, and I said no but I have friends that do, and that is one of the stories they tell me that happens frequently

It has no relevance to anything though?

Just because you have friends that work in IT doesn't mean anything for you though does it?

I have a friend who works in a bar, I don't know anything about cocktails though? I wouldn't pretend to know either.

Still heavily used in business's and schools due to various compatibility issues with software. Only very recently moved to google chrome site wide here though once they released full in depth group policy templates.

You can also get GPO templates for Firefox now, as well as .MSI installations.

Off topic but mind if I send you an email through trust? Looking to deploy chrome at my work but have a few questions.

Ever since they started the regular releases though Firefox seems to have grown in memory usage, I've avoided ever deploying it because on some of the oldest PCs it can be a right hog :(

Sure :)

Whatever, I stand by my statement, if people can get cup holders and cd drives mixed up, they don't deserve a computer

Nor do people who can't understand what a news article is about even when it's in plain english...

Yeah, clearly only leet hackers like yourself should be entitled to use a computer.

Updates should be silent and transparent - this development is excellent news.

LOL @ Jay794

Still haven't explained your Bill Gates comment?

Not claiming to be leet or a hacker, but I can safely say it's been a few years since I got a virus that destroyed my computer.

I don't think updates should be silent, numerous updates have stopped software and hardware working because of bugs, at least MS are giving people the option so they can wait till all the bugs are found before updating, I know the article specifically mentions Explorer but don't you think they'll eventually roll this out for all MS products, Windows included?

Yeah, it is a resource eating monster! :(
But I like it :p

I skim read it, like I said in the first post

No I don't work in IT, but I have friends that do, how many people can mistake a CD drive for a cup holder, I mean come on, really? a CUP HOLDER?!

Your assuming everyone has PC knowledge. If you don't work in IT or have any other experience with users within IT then please step away.

A cup holder you say? Try working in IT and you will see.

/sleep.

Your typical (and by that I mean the largest proportion) of Windows users will not actively update their machines. Updates should be automatic, silent and transparent. If the updates themselves break things (which is actually very rare, as typically graphics drivers are an external process) then that is a different matter.

Damn Jay, that post was so stupid I kinda hope you are trolling (I would rip it to shreds but it seems everyone else has done so already).

Sounds like good news to me. IE is a terrible browser for compatibility, you can create sites that work flawlessly in firefox, chrome and opera but that pos IE9 will not render them properly. Hopefully for the unfortunate people who use IE this will help them.

I'm not trolling, I admitted in the first post that I only skimmed the article, so maybe I should have read the entire thing, lesson learned. Still interesting news
