General post quality

The only person who particularly bothers me is Glaucus as I assume he is using an iPad or something but so often the words are just completely wrong and it makes it a chore to read through his posts, which is annoying as the content is normally good once you're past that :p

It's infamous, it's not just the iPad. It's not much better on PC, spell check is a little better on PC though.
Usually get it right after several people quote me and 3 edits later.

I guess it really depends on what extent the text speak is being used.

I usuall say things like gfx simply because it's easier. I detest people who alws fl th ned to abbvt evry sngl frkn wrd

Am pretty sure they did close GD down to clean up the crap and make a point, which it did to some extent but alas things never change.

Must have been over five years ago that then as I can barely recall it. I'm not a massive poster in GD, or elsewhere for that matter, purely because I don't feel the need to impose my view on to every thread/topic that's brought up. However I'm still around pretty much every day reading through several of the sub-forums, and GD (along with the gaming forums) has always been a bit hit and miss on the quality side (I used to frequent the graphics forum too, but ffs that place was a right cess pit at one point).

I think GD just gives an area for members to let loose a little, throw their internet persona around a little. No harm in that, as long as it isn't getting out of hand, and the mods do their best to keep it that way.

You know what? You get people from both sides of the camp.

1 - You get some people who advocate good written English, and that we all should aspire to be better than our fathers. We should be learning more each day, better ourselves, starting from the basic, read and write, which includes writing on the internet. Just because I am on an internet forum, it does not mean that I can start to slack? Why would I? I am not constricted by the number of characters I can post on any given window. I am not limited by the money it cost to send a text and limit my character count.

Write the best English that you can, anything else is just plain lazy.

2 - Those who camp on the side of "English is an evolving language"

Their argument seems to be that language is a fluid entity, true. However, I hate to see my kids (if i am lucky enough to have some) can't tell the difference between You're/your, To/too, Weather/whether, bought/brought, there/their.

I simply do not and cannot accept "evolution" as the answer when people get those mixed up, it is not evolution, it is just wrong. It is like 1+1 = 3 all of the sudden. Put that under evolution is not an excuse.

And please, would people stop quoting the Daily Mail, I swear it kills braincells by merely clicking on its website.

If there's more than a few spelling mistakes in a post I just ignore it - unless I am quoting it to make a point.

:)
