here are the raw specs found at this website.

Here’s a summary of the key parameters of the various PCI Express interfaces:
Base Clock Speed: PCIe 3.0 = 8.0GHz, PCIe 2.0= 5.0GHz, PCIe 1.1= 2.5GHz
Data Rate (per lane & per direction): PCIe 3.0 = 1000MB/s, PCIe 2.0= 500MB/s, PCIe 1.1= 250MB/s
Total Bandwidth (x16 link): PCIe 3.0 = 32GB/s, PCIe 2.0= 16GB/s, PCIe 1.1= 8GB/s
Data Transfer Rate: PCIe 3.0 = 8.0GT/s, PCIe 2.0= 5.0GT/s, PCIe 1.1= 2.5GT/s

here are the 2 boards i'm comparing.
normal board
gen3 board

price difference of £10... not a massive amount, and i'll probably go for the gen3 BECAUSE i feel if i ever did buy a card that would fully saturate a 2.0 pci-e connection, i would be missing out, but on the other hand, since none of them do at the moment(well, not in my price range), is this just a sales ploy invented to catch out panicky pusses like myself...

was looking in the ocuk bundles, first ones i came across with gen3 ^^ then googled it and posted. looking for views on if it's worth getting mainly.

Yeah but if your shelling out for a new MOBO wouldn't it be best to get a GEN3 board so that when you do upgrade to Ivybridge :) then you can put a nice new pcie3 gfx card in and use the board to its full potential ?

yes, but what i'm wondering is, am i future proofing for 4 years ahead... when in 4 years time it'll be old as hell anyway... seems like a sales gimick, you know

1 item cost 1.50, or buy 2 for 2.90...

PCIe gen3 cards are coming out in january, so its not 4 years ahead

All H67/P67/Z68 should accept PCIe 3 with a bios update as it linked to the cpu..

Only 1st slot mind..

I am sure motherboard/cpu/gpu all have to support pci-e 3, and only the gen3 boards do - the other boards are all still pci-e 2.

Same as current i5/i7 processors don't, but the next bunch of processors from intel will.

Could be wrong though :)
