Hi guys, how many people on here have one of these?

I'm torn between what gpu to decide on, these look like they have a great spec and can get them for £200 ish second hand. I won't be purchasing just yet it's just doing my head in looking at gfx cards daily. :p

I'd just like to know how good they really are, drivers etc right now for the newer releases like bf3, skyrim, as I know ati's can be a pain and with it being a dual gpu.

Ps, don't say the auto reply of well the 7xxx series are out soon, I know this and that's not what i'm asking. ;)
 
5970 looks an absolute beast... and price seems good too.. If your not that bothered about the 79xx series then why not... or 270 will get you a 6970 at the moment :)
 
I Have a his 5970 2GB, Plays all games fine ,skyrim, witcher 2 it used 1.4 GB Vram,Dead Island plays all i chucked at it on fully maxed out gfx settings with great FPS. with out a oc
on 24inch 16.10 dell 1920 x 1200 res, had the card for over a year now & not ran into any trouble.
cant see myself buying a 7xxx it be just waste of cash as the 5970 still play all on max settings & only around 30% slower than HD6990.

Run Battlefield 3. Then run anything else that uses hefty textures.

Crysis 2 - with the 2gb texture pack and DX11 enabled.

Then RAGE with the ultra textures unlocked.

It will be a very, very different story mate.
 
Crysis 2 i played & completed all maxed out with DX11 Packed enabled & had the other hi-res pack installed had more then enough fps & had no trouble & looked great .

RAGE Not yet Played & BF not my cup of tea.
 
It's not whether it's your cup of tea mush. It's the engine they will now use for the future. And it gobbles VRAM.

If you want a bargain and to play everything out before BF3? sure !. I got a pair of GTX 295s very cheap (won't divulge how much, but yeah, cheap) and everything up to BF3 flies. Sadly I don't want to live in the past and do like new games. So that's why I have a 6970L in my other PC :)
 
i noticed that Rage ran crap on the 5970 tell they fixed that in the 11.11c Drivers & Above , also i dont want to live in the past , will think about a 7970 if the price is right,
around £349 i would pay upto for a 7970, £500 be way over priced, just think how much a 7990 cost - upto £1000 they having a lol .

Yeah I hear you man. Some of them ltd eds are nothing but a sticker on the HS, madness :rolleyes:

Mind you, some of them do stand out. The ones designed from the ground up.

I gotta say I quite like that really odd 580 Classified that EVGA do.

It was the same for me when I had a 4870X2. Although the cores ran surprisingly cool considering the model, it used to heat up the room it was in almost too well. It used to make my legs sweat slightly! Now I have a gtx480 with a Gigabyte windforce cooler, and it gets a little chilly. I'm getting to be a fussy gamer. :D
 
i see RAGE game going for £14.99 in the Amazon i thinking of buyinig it , i watched a Vid of it on a 5990 on youtube & Looks good, but will i get the best looks on max with a 5990 -2gb vram, the witcher 2 used 1.4GB of Vram in the auto gfx config & looks great.
 
Providing Rage has been patched to work properly, which I think it has - though I don't have the game, then it will run at 60fps on your system. The technology is specifically designed to run at that speed on a variety of hardware, so no worries there. :)
 
My radiators are off in my room permanently. Just don't need them. In summer I don't game much at all, I end up looking like a 15 year old acne kid :D

Ed. Yeah RAGE has been patched and very well I may add.

It even works with quad SLI surround now :)

Good game too. Not as good as say, Fallout 3 or Borderlands, but darn good fun none the less. It's definitely the best FPS elements out of the three, that's for sure. Got a real hardcore feel to the shooty bits :)
 
Get a more powerful single gpu setup. My recent cards have been a 4870X2, 5970 then the 6990, and to be honest I am tired of the horrific crossfire support (or lack there of) from AMD.
 
I got my AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1190T Black Edition OC to 3.80 Ghz
I PAID around £131 pounds for from OC few months ago & now they cost almost £200
being a guess that the bulldozer did not Dig it & so amd know that the Phenom II X6 Six Core is a great cpu & put the price of them up .


I Can see Really High Prices on the 7xxx GFX Cards
