Hello,

Wondering what amp I should be looking at to go with my newly acquired Wharfdale Diamond 9.0s. I will likely be adding a 'woofer to the set up later this year too.

I was looking at the LEPAI LP2020A+, but its unavailable on the rainforest site and I've never heard of the only other shop stocking it online (google shopping top link :p)

So what else is there? Or should I just go for the LEPAI?

Budget can be expanded, but don't -really- want to go over £30.

Thanks,
Cookeh

There isn't a lot of choice in the £25 bracket. Other than that shop, only other place I can find, is the famous auction site. China and HK sellers only though for that particular Lepai.

There are UK sellers, but they are different amps. Classed as a car or boat amp, and a distinct lack of specs. Whether or not they are tripath based amps, I have no idea.

A few others are available on the famous auction site, but they are either £30+, or from China/HK.

The top link states tripath, would that be the best bet then?

How much would I have to spend to get a much wider variety?

Yes' I'd say so.

There are other amps available, but you'd probably have to spend £35 minimum to get one from the UK. There are probably some for less than £30, but they're likely to be from HK.

Any names/brands? The lepai seems to be unavailable everywhere.

Majority of tripath amps are only available on eBay, it seems.

A lot have a name on the front of the amp, but aren't necessarily sold as that name. Searching for a name, might only bring up a handful or less results.

Best to search for tripath, or t-amp.

nad 3020e is a nice amp and you can pick it up rather cheap.

Indeed it is, but not sure if the OP wants a full size integrated amp, or whether he has room for one.

He did mention it being a Christmas present, so used might not be desirable.

Also, with only a £25-£30 budget, you're not likely to get one without going to pick it up.

What should I be looking for in a decent amp. Any household names around?

Also the 3020e either doesn't exist or is at £££s.

3020e does indeed exist. Not many on eBay, but there are maybe three. Of course, if you weren't looking on eBay, or any other auction site, you won't find it. The original 3020's are probably 30 years old, so any for sale are second hand.

If you are looking for new only, then tripath amps are the only option. Integrated stereo amps, start at around £80-£100.

There are some recognised brands, but some are far from cheap.

If you are looking to buy from a UK seller, then you'll be paying £35 at cheapest. If you're willing to buy from a Hong Kong seller, then cheaper one's can be had.

Really depends if you want one for the cheapest you can get, and whether or not you are willing to buy from a HK seller.

I don't mind buying from a HK seller if his reps decent etc.

Provided it gets here around about Christmas, I don't mind where its from :p

So what should I be looking at for £35 for UK sellers and HK sellers? :D

Well there is no hope of getting one from HK before Christmas, unless it has priority post. Not likely, seeing as most offer economy delivery only.

Just looking at some of the one's around £35, and most it seems come without power adaptors. Unless you've got one to use, that's added cost.
