Yaris 1.4 Diesel?

Diesels in the winter are completely hopeless on short trips. Last winter when I was doing 40 mile trips, I was easily getting 55mpg from my Ibiza, this winter doing 5 mile trips (the car hasn't even fully warmed up by then) I'm getting about 45.

Also, didn't the Mk3 Yaris just come out?

Yup they are out , had a test drive in one , but it just isnt a Yaris anymore.

Of course there is a Mk2 Yaris? They dont still sell the ancient one that came out in 1999 :p

Of course I know there's a mk1 Yaris, but Mk1 Yaris's top model is the 1.5L Yaris t-sport. The mk2 Yaris is call Yaris SR (different name in in europe, I think it is the TR) and the mk2, mine is 1.8L.

He said if mine was the mk1 SR, which there isn't, mk1 is the T-sport, mk2 is the SR, there is no mk1 1.8SR.

I saw them at the dealer last month, it is the size of an Auris, seen it parked side by side, it isn't a "super mini" anymore, it is closer to the ilks of say Focus territory I say.

Is it really? Lets take a look.

New Yaris:

3.8 metres long
1.695 metres wide

Old Yaris:

3.75 metres long
1.695 metres wide

So it would seem it's barely any bigger than the outgoing model. It is an identical width and a whole 5cm longer.

Yet you think it's the size of an Auris? Bizarre, but lets take a look at that claim...

Auris is 4.22 metres long and 1.76 metres wide.

It is therefore noticeably larger than the new Yaris.

Should have gone to Specsavers ;)

Perception.

In person, it looks like the size of an Auris. Have you seen them size by size rather than paper figures?

The actual figures are how big it really is though Raymond :p

You can't say it isn't a supermini because it 'looks big' when the truth of the matter is that it is as near as makes no difference identically sized to the previous model. 5cm is all thats in it!

Perception is all very well but it's a bit weird to go around saying a car thats 3.8 metres long has grown so much that its not the same class as its previous model (3.75m long) and is infact the size of a car thats 4.22 metres long. It's completely illogical.

Talk about pedantic, I think it looks big, it's in my mind, it is my opinion, it's not about right or wrong, it looks like the Auris, to me. I couldn't care less what it says on paper.

Sigh, you are just a **** stirrer Fox.

I'm not stirring anything, you are just plain wrong! The new Yaris is 'pretty much' the same size as the old one, and thats all there is to it. It's nowhere near as big as an Auris!

I have absolutely no technical knowledge on this subject, but I do know every diesel I've been in has taken a good 2-3 miles to get up to temp (on the gauge), whereas most petrols show full temp on the gauge within 1, 1 and a half at most.

Assuming that you're looking at water temperature as most car's have this as opposed to oil temperature (and indeed a lot of superminis probably don't even have that) then your engine is not going to be properly warm for some time after the needle on the gauge is in the middle. I expect a lot of cars used for 5 mile each way type commutes never actually get up to temperature and are therefore rarely operating very efficiently.

Sigh, you are just a **** stirrer Fox.

I always thought you were a better poster when I only saw you post in Photography (e.g., something you know something about).

I just have a soft spot for him :p

Tbh, right now I'm very stressed, helping my dad out in the kitchen (his take away) and perhaps not the best time to post or react to Fox's post.

So, I apologise calling him a **** stirrer, that's over the line.

However, my point is that I see it not based on paper figures, just from perception. Perhaps it's the new design of it, it looks like a Auris a lot for a start. But the point is that it feels big to me. That's all I am saying. Not everything is about what it is on paper you know, if it is, fox would be driving his 335.

There are some things though for which the paper figures are absolutely correct. Claiming a car is the same size as another is one of these things :p

'It feels big to drive' is definately a perception thing.

'It is as big as an Auris' is only a perception thing if you are overdue a visit to Specsavers :p

There is definately a trend towards bigger and bigger cars but to be fair to Toyota the new Yaris is ironically a rare example of the new car being about the same size as the old one!

I really hate this question, or poeple that care about the cost of filling a tank.
If I design a car I'm going to use a thimble as a fuel tank so people go "OMG cost 23p to fill up, that's amazing, I'm buying it"

/end random rant.

It is a meaningless question which is indicative of the publics obsession with visible cost above everything else about buying cars.

The more it costs to fill, the bigger the tank, the less often you need to fill it. Simple really.

Apart from the works vans I think the majority I know "stick 20quid in" at a time. And really don't care how often they visit a petrol station. Unless they are a mega milage user and filling up more than twice a week.

I don't get that either, when I go fill up, I fill it up to the brim. I don't need to or want to keep going back every 2 minutes.
