OcUK Rolling Road Day 12.5 @ PowerStation (Tewksbury) - December 17th 2011

Great to meet the usual faces again and some new ones :)
Was extremely slippery and some careful modulation of the throttle was required :o

Was happy with 305bhp/200lbft, bang on the numbers I was expecting.
Just need to weigh it now so I can get an accurate bhp/tonne figure, even if it's 850kg at the worst it's still 360bhp/tonne :D

Neil.

Good day all round, enjoyed the ride in the elise...thoroughly bonkers car, with the roof down at this time of year as well!

Slightly disappointed/mildly confused with my dyno result today, somehow without having anything at all touched on the car I've lost 7bhp and 10 lb/ft from my last run at powerstation (which was less than a month ago!).

Gibbos jag impressed me, quickish old barge with genuine refinement, shows what relatively little money can buy you if you are careful and lucky! A lot of car for not much cash.

Great to meet you all today, and see a couple of you again.

Went in expecting 200-210, walked away with a graph showing 230 bhp :D

Good day out and a phat burger to boot!

Well, I'm home!

Glad I didn't blow the MX-5 up and also pleased with 182.2bhp on my extremely last minute home-brew novice map :D

I bet you were well chuffed with that figure Martin! Shows that there's definitely more potential there.

Did you get an AFR reading on the printout too?

Neil, is the Elise running ok now then? I seem to remember you had doubts about the power it was making?

Yeah it's all sorted now after a combination of blocked cat, huge leak at the manifold>cat flange and four broken exhaust manifold branches with a poor quality map causing the afr's to be all over the shop.

Very pleased yeah, it was a huge relief that it didn't blow up tbh!

I had my laptop hooked up to the ECU so I have a data trace of the power run. AFRs were solidly between 10 and 11 bar a period between about 3500 and 4500rpm when it went below 10 (which is the lowest my wideband will read).

Boost was between 5 and 6 PSI, I'm not sure why the logging jumps around the way it does but it does it for all values so I suspect it is a resolution thing...

Had a good day today, even if it was a bit cold :p

Was good to talk to you about the supercharger drz, think i might go that route when I can insure it!

I kind of wasn't paying attention to what I was doing behind the camera. Some of the pictures were unusable, so sorry if I missed your car! What's up with all the blue cars?

It was great to see everyone again.

Can you reupload those without the terrible 'Look at my mad leet photo skillz' look? They are horrible, this isnt the photography forum, we want to see pictures of cars not horrible artistic effects. It's like looking at them through the bottom of a glass!

No. They were shot with a fisheye. Bar a little toning adjustments those are how they came off the camera. I could straighten them in photoshop but frankly I can't be arsed. If you look closely you'll see that they contain the same content as non-fisheye photos.

They look ridiculous!

I can't begin to imagine why such a lense was chosen to take happysnaps of a dyno day

Anyone else get any pics?

Several reasons.

The next smallest I have is 18mm and in the confined space of the dyno room it would have been too narrow a field to work with. Therefore the 10.5mm is the obvious choice.

The lighting in the dyno room was not really ideal, and I only have a basic camera, so using high sensitivity settings beyons ISO800 the photos become practically unusable. The 18mm lens will just about manage f/3.8 - the 10.5 will manage f/2.8 - thus being a faster lens.

I quite like the effect of the wide angle lens, I've not long had it and I'm still learning how to use it tbh. Nonetheless, I like it, I took the photos for me and decided to share them.

I'm not a pro, I was there to get my own car on the dyno and happen to enjoy taking photos. I have chosen to share them with you, they were not taken to please you.

Why are you so miserable?

Becuase typically we look forward to the pics when we miss an RR day. It's great to see everyones cars etc. This time the collection of pics are... to be honest if you don't 'get' why some of us are confused as to why you've taken pics like that I suppose you never will.

I'm sure that sort of thing works well in photography but in Motors simple pics of cars work much better :p

Looks like a good day, but the fisheye pics aren't to my liking. Never the less, thanks for taking the pics.
