asus 7970 3072mb pre order

Hang on all the nay sayers, if it has performance to match then why is the price such a bad thing? There will be 7950s, 78xx and 76xx for those that don't want to spend big, as there always has been. I don't expect the top card from NV to be any cheaper tbh!

Now, we just need games to use this power...

Now, we just need games to use this power...

No chance.

All that will happen is lazy coders will now use the grunt of this card to hide their poor coding, like they always have.

Look at what the 360 did when it came out, now look at what they have managed to do with it. Sure, no PC beater but for the hardware it has it's nothing short of miraculous.

Nothing for PC is around long enough to be put to good use. I have two GPUs sitting here that some one would have spent £900 on. I see a total of absolutely 0 games that use them to their full ability.

I mean really, £900? for what? few extra frames in Crysis 2. REALLY?

But will the AMD's pricing be substantially affected when nvidia Keplers come out?

£500+ for a single gpu is

What has happened to older price models where single top end gpus would cost around £300 and then coming down later on? :(

Kepler high end is months and months away.

Why do you think they have priced them like that?

See before with the 58xx they were worried about Fermi. It was due at any time and Nvidia were tight lipped. This time? Nvidia have made it clear with their roadmaps.

Now that will likely have to change, but, from what I read today the 7970 is 30% faster than a 6970. And, AMD have made a press release with graphs stating just that. So chances are a hard pushed 3gb 580 will provide the same results.

Mind you, the 580 doesn't make APPS like Winzip go faster.

Had a silver arrow on order for ages.. Kept asking about stock levels and let update was still unsure but unlikely to come into stock this year.. So I canceled order and got the noctua... The day it was delivered and I fitted it silver arrows came into stock..

Don't get me wrong it's a great cooler just SA looks a bit nicer.. Need to change my sig tbh :D

So 7970 isn't around 70-80% faster than 6970 then?:p

I will be disappointed :p

Only 30% increase?

Damn that sucks :/ I think a low power usage 7870 seems like the best option then...

Fair do's. Looking to get a DH14 myself though

Can't remember exactly where that was now, but it came via Google.

Tessellation performance is better, but note the distinct lack of real world benchmarks?

I mean, Nvidia made a huge point about tessellation on the 580 series. A 480 was still able to compete and sit level with a 570.

Cast your mind back to the 5870, where charts and graphs were in abundance. And it delivered, too. Then fast forward to all the promises with the 6950 and 6970 and them being a huge letdown and pricier than the 5 series per performance. It's only for about two weeks that AMD have finally priced the 6 series high end where they belong.

Bummer.

Also? Kepler will kick its ass. What interests me most about Kepler however is the fact it will natively do what Nvidia cards should have been doing for ages - support three monitors in surround on a single card !

MMM i bought my 6950 for £200 on pre order, i thought the price/performance was good enough! Im more interested in the £200ish card (which is the price range i buy from) if its 20% faster then i might get one, being cooler dosnt matter to me neither do benchmarks as all it takes is a driver to be aimed at maxing a certain benchmark to make it redundant...i want real game tests to be done.

Last graphic card I ordered from Germany, I never paid VAT, only p&p.

You may not have done but you should have paid VAT in this country.

From HMRC:

Generally speaking, VAT is payable on all purchases of goods and services that you buy from abroad at the same rate that would apply to the goods or services if supplied in the UK. You must tell HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) about goods that you import, and pay any VAT and duty that is due.
