Drain cover, oil, wall! I think its a write off!!

If you don't mind tiptronic, this is not a bad price for a 2005 car, Id get the trader to agree to take the car to an OPC for the 111 point check and upon completion of the check and work required doing negotiate a price for the car, basically deduct what Porsche say needs doing is either done or the car discounted by the amount required to do the work:-

Ideally if one can stretch you want a 2006 model 997, which some 55 plate cars are and all 06 plate cars are. The difference is revised IMS unit, satnav postcode search function (easiest way to tell).

This is a nice car, though mileage on high side and it is a 2005 car, but does have OPC warranty:-

If you search hard you could probably find a nice 997 C2 :)

Looks like a fair bit of speed involved for that amount of damage, its screwed. I was following a Mondeo down shopland today, normal sensible speeds etc and he had the back end come out on a left hander, I think the grit they've been putting down this year round here has been particularly slippy

To be fair to the OP, just last week I put a wheel onto a drain cover like that going at a similar speed and I had some proper sideways action in the S-Class!

I was pretty fortunate to a) be on a fairly wide road, b) have a car with a loooong wheelbase (probably longer than longcat) and to a very much lesser extent c) have the experience and reactions to catch it.

Basically, you were unlucky but bad luck always has a helping hand. You'll be ready next time and (hopefully!) won't put the car in that situation again. Far better to not be in a mess in the first place than know how to get yourself out of it but the two go very much hand in hand :)

Best of luck with the insurance payout and the new car search :)

This is great advice and when I get the new car I will certainly do just this.

Sorry to hear about your crash. Seriously consider doing a walshy day at North Weald Airfield when you get your replacement. I've heard lots of good things about them and am planning on getting myself onto one.

I thought I recognised those 2 drains in the second picture. I always avoid them when going down that road.

Ok so I have calmed down a little now, my heads been all over the place, you know what its like at first your thinking what if etc etc. Basically in the last month I have hardly driven the car and it was my intention to keep the car garaged over the winter, but after driving around in the corsa for a few hundred miles this last month and receiving a replacement head unit this week I just had to get it out and put in the new head unit.

I was just popping up to the shop to pick up some chicken and a friend so noticing that their was bearly any fuel in the porsche I decided I would take that and put some petrol in it while I was at it. I went to the shop picked up the chicken and my friend and was heading to the petrol station.

The accident happened just after I left the shop, I entered the road from the roundabout off the broadway. As I hit the bend the car started to spin out, I tried to correct that but couldn't and hit and mounted the curb. The car bounced off the curb started going sideways and then head on into the wall, which I probably hit at approx 25 mph, anyway this caused the rear of the car to spin around into the tree. At this point the airbags deployed, as they deployed I was pushed away from the steering wheel which was on lock and my natural reaction was to almost stand in my chair. I found that I couldn't stop myself from standing on the accelerator and the foot rest at the left which further added to the chaos (and I assume as I was blinded from the airbag) throwing the car back into the road and by the time I had come around from the shock of an airbag to the face, to a stop. With the engine still running.

Make of it what you will it happened quick but that is how I remember it.. to me the fact the car crumpled at the front and that both me and my passenger were safe without any injuries is testament to the car which will be sorely missed.

Another local Southend-er?

Damn  At least you are ok.

Can't say that if I'd just written off my car I'd be on Autotrader within hours looking for its replacement :o

Weirdly was chatting with my step dad on the way out tonight and was talking about this, that you were looking for another Porsche with a 20k budget and what sort of thing would be good.

He said he's selling his C4S soon and for 20k you can have it :p

2004, 69,300 on the clock, exactly the same to look at as I posted earlier, Seal Grey with dark navy interior.

edit: Same as this but newer http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201148432087605

2004 model so has the revised 2 years/12k servicing interval, next service due in September or in 3k miles time. Full Porsche history, decent tread on all the tyres, new brakes last service, if I wasn't doing stupid miles at the moment I'd probably have it myself :)

34 mph, span on some oil ... err drain covers, mounted a kerb, span it, stamped on the throttle instead of the brake and then punted it into a wall......

Do you have a licence?

;) :D
Glad to hear you are OK though, never nice when you crumple your pride and joy.
