Driving hazard perception test

I've been looking at some of these online hazard perception tests and this one really flummoxes me. Clip one

You can click the review option to see when you '''should''' click. The highest score is when a man starts to cross the road in the far distance - not a hazard, surely? The next best score is the ped walking toward a car - still not a hazard in my book, next - opening the passenger side door - now maybe a hazard, fourth - car now indicating - now definitely a hazard - fifth - car pulling out - too late.

Clicking when the hazard is real only gives you two/one point. Clicking when he ped first put's in an appearance gets you 5. Really? Come on.

A man crossing the street in the far distance is a hazard because he *may* get in a car that *may* drive into your path?

Real life testing would be a better idea :o
 
The reason I'm looking at these tests is I want to do my bike test soon. Will I have to do the stupid things or not. I passed my car test in 1992. Ta.

Also - gay test is gay :/
 
Its easy just click when you first see the hazard and click when it develops into when u need to take action
 
Some of the supposed 'hazards' do seem a bit ridiculous but remember you're not penalised for clicking when there is no hazard present. Therefore, the best policy is to click whenever you see anything which you believe has the potential to develop into a hazard and obviously click again when the hazard presents itself. Do this and a pass is guaranteed.
 
A man is crossing the road in the far distance, what happens if while he was crossing the road he fell? Then that would be a hazard, it's more about far fetched "What-if's" than actual hazards. Another could be a child in the far distance standing next to the road, even if he walks off before you get to him, he was a potential hazard at 1 point because he could have randomly crossed the road in front of you, so you spotting him from far away gives you more awareness to what could happen and lets you prepare in plenty of time to avoid an accident.


Still, some of them are pretty ridiculous, I agree.

Click too much and you don't score anything.
 
You click whenever you see something that could or will cross your path.

Ped crossing the road? Click. It's a hazard because he could cross slowly enough for you to have to brake slightly.
Ped getting into a car? You're now overtaking a vehicle, click.

The actual rules are: "click whenever you see something that may cause you to have to alter your speed or direction".

So any ped who looks like crossing the road, any car/bus stopped in a layby, cyclists coming up to junctions etc.
 
The whole test is a nonsense.

I had to take a theory test for my HGV, despite having a full car and bike license, you see things far earlier than a novice would after a few years on the road.

Problem is, seeing the problems develop right at the start, is too early for the test, so you dont score.
 
What annoyed me with the hazard perception test is that you can click a moment too early, and miss out the points, or click a moment too late and get fewer points.

That was certainly my experience with a 'Learning to drive' DVD with lots of practice tests. Sometimes the separation between the level of score you could get was so minute it was luck that you get that score.

In the end, the best strategy was to click for every potential hazard, and click a few more times after it (with half second delays).

Real life testing?

Well in real life, you need to be aware of everything around you, so someone crossing the street ahead is something you need to see as a potential hazard.
 
I HATED this test, I took it with no revision and passed, but didnt take my test so it expired and I had to take it again...revised very hard and failed miserably because I was clicking "too soon" pfft, they should change it so you click ON the hazard.
 
I hated this at first until I figured it out. You basically just click at any moment something happens that would cause the driver to adjust their driving, for example steer around them or brake.

I found if you click around three times (Give them like a 0.5 / 1 second gap between them) it wont have a go at you for over clicking, and the click which was in the "highest score" will be the one thats counted. Try it and see if your score improves.
