Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

Cos it shows that they are coming down! Cost prices went up!

It doesn't show anything unless we have something to compare it to.

Assuming £55 is the current cost price, and it's come down from £75 or whatever, then that would be useful information.

Without context the price you quoted doesn't tell the rest of us anything other than you can buy the drive for £55.

If retial has droped then cost clearly has which means supliers price has as well. This alone is a no brianer!

Just think if they were being banged out at £42 or alike back in the day the cost had to be lower! That cost is dropping again which means more stock is out there.

Admitly the web only allows 1 per order but you can order more than once or sod the techno era off and speak to a human to do it

Gawd, what a mickey take 99% of the pricing is.

I was aware that drive prices had increased but, not being in the market for a drive, hadn't taken much notice.

Just got a new Microserver last week so went to get a 2TB+ drive for it this morning thinking as i'd paid £45 for the last 2TB i'd bought not so long ago, it wouldn't be 'that' much more.

Meh, think the Microserver can go without its disk for a while.

I just bought WD Velociraptor 600GB from a well-known etailer for 179 pounds which I believe is roughly the same price it was selling for before this whole disaster. Funnily, they also had 640GB Black Caviars in stock and they were 215 pounds!

Seeing as hdd prices seem to be coming back down I just returned two of my unopened external 2tb drives. I had bought them as a hedge against the price rises but it doesn't seem so necessary now. I will just wait until prices stabilise further and buy a couple of internals when they do.

I kept the third drive I acquired as I suspect my main drive may be exhibiting some issues. I kept the one I managed to buy before the rises.

I've just bought 2 2tb drives over the last two weeks.

The first was £89.99 and the second was £79.99, both were heavily in stock and still are

When you think that the cheapest 2tb drive I personally bought was for around £65 it's not THAT much more expensive.
