hi guys,

i have bought an Asus Axe Square Limited Edition Gold CPU Cooler from overclockers.co.uk, it says on the site that it is lga1155 compatable, but the basic mountings seem to be for an lga775 board. i had a bit of a google and it says that there should be an adaptor for the sandybridge boards with it, but there wasnt any adaptor. i have lined it up with the mobo and it is a little bit too small (if 3 pins are in comfortably the 4th wont go in at all, if i loosen the screws a little i can get all 4 in but at a steep angle).

im just wondering if the cooler i have is missing the adaptor which it should have, or if i am just being paranoid and the pins are supposed to be slightly angled to make them fit?

cheers
lumi.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The fittings aren't meant to be at an angle.

It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't compatible.

The Asus Royal Knight is also listed as S1155 compatible but it appears it isn't:

I suggest you start a thread here and someone from OcUK will look into it.

If you get the chance I'd send it back and get something better. These are old stock being sold off cheap and I don't think they're very good coolers.

thanks mate, will post in that forum now :)

tbh, i only got the cooler because it seems better than the stock cooler and it worked out cheaper to get that plus a 2500k oem than a retail 2500k, i'll get a decent cooler after christmas but wanted something to get it up and running for the time being, i wont be doing any kind of big overclock untill i invest in a better cooler anyways.

it is defo listed as 1155 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-032-AS but someone in the comments section said that it comes with an addaptor.

Perhaps the cooler isn't as bad as I thought. It seems to get reasonable reviews.

When you get it fitted you can see what sort of temperatures you get and go from there with overclocking.

Overclock a bit at a time checking the load temperatures as you go.

The only problem with OcUK sending you an adapter, if they have one, is that it's too late to post using Royal Mail First Class to get it to you this side of Christmas. I'd ask them to send it Special Delivery, or some other method that'll get it to you in time.

I don't know if you're aware, or bothered, but the OEM CPU only has a 1 year warranty whereas the retail version has 3 years.

yeah, im not overly concerned with the warranty, i tend to find with most things that it will either die straight away if its faulty or it will die because i break it :(

i havent picked the best time of year to get things delivered really, i can wait untill after christmas if needed, altho dpd will deliver next day up untill thursday in time for christmas i think.

Thought I'd bring this thread back and say I'm having the same problem. My Axe Square just seems a bit too small. It doesn't fit right at all. :(

Wait, you bought the OEM?....why didnt you spend the extra few £££ and get the extra 2 years warranty.

Because shes blonde. :D :D

Yeah when they were released to the forum they said they were in co-opperation with Asus to make them compatible. From day one I knew it was going to be a fail.

Going to bump this back up for OP, as I think I have a solution. All I did was loosen the screws a bit on the clip bracket thing, and I managed to fit it on. Fells secure, and I'm sitting at 28 degrees idle. Hopefully that helps.
