Good movies from the 80s

Back to the Future Trilogy.

This - without any shadow of doubt is the only trilogy of movies where each one is just as good as the other!

And my personal favourite movie of all time (from the 80's) is Bladerunner, how could anyone describe this classic movie as "Meh"? :)

You had to go and let yourself down after such an awesome comment about Back to the Future! :D

Lol - each to their own dude. You now know my feeling on both films, for what it's worth I personally rate Bladerunner so highly due to a number of factors such as: soundtrack, special effects, story line, character portrayal etc.

But like I said each to their own :)

Yeah I'm only kidding mate. Soundtrack etc is also very important to me and I agree, Bladerunner's was pretty good :) Plus the replicon he falls for is fit :D

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Uncle Buck
Blazing Saddles

Aren't you about a decade out with Blazing Saddles dude? I'm not arguing your choice here - it's a brilliant movie and they couldn't remake it in this day and age.
Also, good call on Ferris Bueller's day off. I loved the ferrari 250 in that movie.

Another one that spring to mind as I've been typing is the 1985 movie The Breakfast Club. It's one I've recently watched too, such an awesome movie and how hot was Molly Ringwald in the 80's? :p

Oops, 1974! Well I'll be. Cheers for the education!

Agreed, it is a total classic along with most of the films Mel Brooks made.

How long have you got - the 80s were arguably the best era for action movies. I'd recommend:

-Top Gun [best soundtrack ever]
-Rainman [proof that Tom Cruise can act! - although it isn't action/sci-fi]
-Black Rain [very underrated film, terrific atmosphere when Douglas and Garcia are wandering around Japan at night]
-Predator [who needs a chainsaw when you've got a minigun?]
-Indiana Jones
-Terminator
-Platoon [every 2nd word is a swearie, and the other one is "mother"]
-Die Hard
-Back to the Future

Sadly I was born in 1980, about 10 years too late to witness the glory of 80s action films in the cinema. They got Arnie, I got Keanu Reeves :/

Off the top of my head & looking at my collection too. :p

Star Wars ep 5 & 6
Star trek 2,3 & 4 (but not 5) :p
Scarface (of course) ;)
Rambo 1 & 2
Cobra (guilty pleasure)
Highlander
Batman (the Tim Burton one)
Commando
Remo Unarmed & Dangerous
Running Scared
Ghostbusters
Gremlins
etc....

My immediate thought was of the Brat Pack films from the 80s although arguably The Breakfast Club is the best of them.

You may well be right, I suspect it's because the film industry hadn't really got into cynicism or "knowing" nods to the audience "we're not really taking ourselves seriously". In the 80s I think they did take it seriously and in some ways it was much better for all that.

Red Dawn I haven't seen mentioned yet, I wasn't a fan personally but I know a few people who rate it pretty highly.
Mad Max and sequels are definitely worth a watch - technically Mad Max is 1979 but the sequels are solidly in the 80s.
Lethal Weapon 1&2 are both 80s as well.

Enemy Mine
Manic Cop.
The Money Pit.
The Great Outdoors.
The Terminator.
Die Hard.
Lethal Weapon
Midnight Run.
The Untouchables
Highlander.
Blade Runner.

Etc
Etc
Etc.
