I was looking for a cheap 5770 like card for my nephew recently to put together a little gaming (read Minecraft) PC but decided to give him one of my 5850s. At the same time I bought a 6950 2GB from the MM on impulse, so my other 5850 is going to be sold/handed down. Currently running 12.1 preview drivers perfectly, when my 6950 arrives do I just swap over the cards (with Afterburner reset to stock) or will a reinstall of 12.1 be required?

Sorry if this is a silly question, just trying to avoid an annoying discovery :p

Best to unistall the drivers and install the correct ones for the 6950, I'm not sure if they share the same driver or not, so err on the side of caution.

I am pretty sure that when you install a graphics card that you insert the graphics card, switch PC on and then install the drivers. The driver will detect which card you have and configure itself to that card i.e. 6950 2GB. If you just swapped the graphics card to another type then all the settings would be wrong in the catalyst control center so i would

1) Uninstall current drivers
2) shut down PC
3) take out the 5850's
4) plug in 6950
5) switch on PC
6) Install new drivers

It's not any more effort to install fresh drivers so whats the point in not doing it. Enjoy that 6950 Mr Brennen

Driversweeper > then 12.1s

Also what kind of perforce increase are you getting from going CF 5850 to a 6950? I'm tempted to get one from MM one people start upgrading to the 7xxx series

BF3 hasn't gripped me as I was hoping and the other game i play all the time is... CSS so all that power is wasted tbh. Giving my nephew a 5850 has saved me buying him a card and I've sold the other for £80. Might get another 6950 cheap at the middle/end of next year
