USB Hard Drive connected to TV

Sorry to hijack but didnt see the point in starting a similar thread.

I've got a tv which records to a usb stick 4gb at the moment which is only about 3hrs! Would a mains powered usb HD in a caddy work in the same way? Cheaper option than a huge memory stick?

Should work, depends on the limitations of the TV software/hardware.

I think my Sony TV actually recomends this for the 'Record' function, summut like a "Recomended Minimum Disk Size of 32Gb" and it says both AC/DC powered or Bus powered USB hard drives will work!!

yeh USB should work and again depends on TV as to what type of files it plays....AVI as usually a gimmie and should work no problems but for example my LG tv supports mkv but not the audio which is in DTS. So i have to convert my files to mkv or mpegs with AC3 audio.
