I'm looking to rent a car to drive from Paris to London. Any idea what is the cheapest company to use. I think quotes of £2K for a 24 hour hire period is slightly excessive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I'm going one way but I'll have a cat with me which can't go on the Eurostar. I'm trying to find the easiest way (bar flying) to get from Paris to Nottingham.

One way between countries are very very rare and very very expensive.

Probably best to do two one-ways - one to Calais and one from Dover.

I'm have thought that would be a nightmare for the hiring company as they have a wrong hand drive car stuck in the UK which they can't rent out to anyone so will have to bring it back themselves.

Would it work out cheaper to hire it for a few days, drive it back to the UK then back to somewhere in france then fly back home?

Or do what fox says that makes the most sense :P

The reason for the one way journey is because the cat is in Italy at the moment so we were going to fly straight there, then get a flight back to paris and drive home.

It looks to be better to hire here, drive to Paris then park up and fly to Italy. Then fly back to Paris and drive home.

Yes, all this for a cat however it's got to be done.

Why via Paris? If you're trying to get around any formalities regarding your pet coming into the UK I'd recommend against it. It's not worth the risk.

If you can fly the cat from Italy to Paris why can it not fly from Italy to the UK instead?

The only way you can do that it by sticking it in the hold. The UK is the only place in Europe where you can't fly pets in the cabin.

Unfortunately it can't go in the hold as it wouldn't make the trip.

I'm not trying to do anything of the sort. The cat is fully vaccinated, has a passport, microchip and all other paperwork needed.

We're trying to find the cheapest way of bring the cat back from the south of Italy. If I wanted to smuggle it into the UK I'd jump on the EuroStar with it stuffed up my jumper :p

Please don't bring your cat into the cabin. I and most other flyers hate when we have to endure the smell and noise of cats and dogs in an aircraft.

Why wouldn't it make the trip in the hold? Remember, you're not allowed to remove the animal from it's container whilst in the aircraft cabin.

I have to suffer all the children who cry, cough and sneezed all the way back from Florida earlier this year so having to put up with a cat which sleeps most of the time isn't too much to ask. As for the smell, I can assure you many humans smell more than most animals.

It can't go in the hold because it would be too stressful for it.
