Any owners of a Sammy plasma may be able to help with this.

I got the 59d6900 and I have connected it to my pc wirelessly through my very old router (no internet yet). While it sees the videos that are in the Public Videos of windows, it will not see any mkv files I copy in there.

If I put them on a usb and stick it to the back of the TV it recognises them and plays them fine, but it won't see them over wifi. I tried connecting the TV via ethernet cable to my laptop and again it wouldn't see them.

Any reason why? Any solution?

I intend to get a hard disk and move my media there anyway (I know wifi is not able to reliably stream 1080p files) but it bugs me why it won't see them over wifi.

I had this problem using ps3 as the media centre and besides the stream just isnt reliable anyways you will have stutter and pixelation.

Promise you the best way (as you already know) is HDD.

Out of interest does you tv support DTS then? Mine doesnt :( i have to convert to AC3

Thanks, yes it does support DTS.

Yes I will be using an HDD, no doubt about that. Just wondering about the oddity with mkv over wifi.

Anyone knows if it's possible to use it as a computer screen via wifi (probably silly question)? I've ordered a dvi-hdmi cable for the moment but if I could duplicate the computer monitor over wifi it would be excellent.

Welcome to the work of Samsung. :) I have a PS51D550.
So far I have noticed that the TV will not pick up any files with any punctuation in them.

For example most of my files are named for xbmc's scrapers.
Thor (2011).mkv

But if you rename it to be "Thor" the TV will see it.

Have you got All Share installed on your PC? you can tell the TV to play almost all files using that.

Aha! interesting. I'll try that. I haven't installed allshare yet, will do today.

What about using it as a monitor over wifi, is that possible? (using mouse/keyboard as well)

Very surprised if you can stream full mkv (1080p and DD sound track) via wireless.

I use my ps3 to stream 1080p mkv's with DD soundtrack using just PS3 media server. Works a treat but it's all hard wired gigabit speeds. The transfer rate can peak around 80/85mb per second.

I use mezzmo as a dnla client on my pc and my series 5 sees almost everything i throw at it, and plays it all flawlessly. I am hardwired though as the whole house is networked back to a patch panel and an 8 way switch. No need for changing file names or anything like that.

Im using Serviio as well for my new Samsung LEDTV. Works far better that Twonky which I was using for the PS3. It does also transcode the files I assume.
