6950 Alright for BF3 at 1680?

Hi,

Despite my desperation, i've concluded that my 5830 just isnt powerful enough to run the game at an acceptable frame-rate, despite the graphics settings. Minimum frame rates are just too low and it isnt enjoyable! Metro (underground)is only the time when its about playable :(

Im playing at 1680 (22") and im not fussed about having graphics on absolute maximum. At the moment im playing medium and the game still looks brilliant.

I've got an overclocked 2600k and 8gb DDR3, so it is worth getting the cheapest 6950 2gb to play the game? I get the impression this is about the minimum people are recommending for a decent experience?

I understand new series of ATi are being released, but these seem incredibly overpriced and not aimed at the lower end of the market, and if im honest, i dont mind if the 6950 drops £40-50 in the next few months.

Good idea? Want to order asap so any comments would be appreciated.

possibly a 2gb 560ti, though don't hold me to that 'cos I've never played on one.

Radeon 6970 would do it if you like red, or if you like a bargain the reboxed lightning with 2 games for £267 is very hard to beat. You're basically paying £200 for the card and it'll run BF3 at ultra with 4xfsaa @ 1080p.
 
6950 2gb and 560 2gb will be fine at 60 fps on high ultra about 50 at that res

the games poorly optimised but if you like it those cards are what id go for.

having tried your card and 6950 and it unlocked at 6970 i am very happy with price/performance on bf3

Cheers, yeah, that's what i am aiming for. Price/performance.

Do the 6950's still unlock? Is there a better brand to go for?

i wouldnt expect it the 7850 and 7870 is just a refresh basically of 6950 and 6970 and will just replace them at similar price range and they are not out till march

the 7970 @ 1920x1080 isnt much faster than 69oo card in bf3 but costs nearly 500 quid. at higher res a lot faster but most people play at 1680 or 1920 .

thonk the toxics unlock on the others youll need to check. tbh if you get a decent overlock on youll match a 6970 anyway more or less as it isnt much faster anyway about 10 percent
 
Yes it's fine - with my spec in sig when I game on 1680x1050 all on ultra with the FSAA off, but post processing AA to high, I got between 60-100, averaging around 75-80.

I've recently gone from that res to 1920x1200 however and now im averaging around 60-65 :(

Brill. I also noticed post AA deferred had less of a performance hit than FSAA does. All I want really is to have a nice sustained minimum of at least 40+ in the largest scenarios. If i can get that, im a happy bunny.

Despite the 5830s performance, i do still really like the game. When you get a good server and players its really brill. :):)
 
I would say a HD6950 is perfect for that resolution. But look on members market far cheaper.

You will easy get that.

and yes you are right deferred AA hardly hits framerates and should be left on high - Just set the graphics to ultra and turn FSAA to 0 and you are set :)
