Hi all,

My friend has asked me how much it would cost him to get a PC that runs BF3 on max. So i said about £600 and and just wondering what you lot could do to compete with that?

I know there is really no decent information to go on in terms of usage needs etc and what he wants in terms of upgrades, but he just said it needs to play BF3 on max...

So who can get the min price? GO!

He needs OS. no KB, no mouse. tips on cheap 1080 monitor would be great too.

Thanks all:)

OK, well he cant get a machine to max BF3 for 600, plain and simple.
Now thats out the way, does he have a fixed budget? IE £600? or is he willing to spend more? If his budget is fixed, at £600 is that incl a monitor and OS? or are they separate?

you can do it for £600 if he has the monitor and OS already. Wont be future proofed but can certainly get an Ultra graphics with stable performance.

I think 'maxed out' is subjective. I run a single 580 at 1080p and I have all the settings ramped up to maximum. I get a pretty constant ~40fps which is perfect as far as I'm concerned. I have a friend who runs it in maximum settings on a single 560Ti which he also says is perfect, personally I notice some infrequent stuttering and the framerate occasionally drops into the high 20's. Some people define 30fps as playable, others 40, others 60. Some people claim they can tell the difference between 90fps and 120fps.

For me, a single 570 (or 560Ti 448 core edition) is sufficient to run BF3 in maximum settings at a perfectly smooth framerate, or a regular 560Ti with antialiasing turned down a notch. Other people may notice imperfections at 30fps, I sure don't. As I said, it's subjective, and depends on what you feel is smooth running!

Yep, the graphics card would kill that plan, you'd be looking at a minimum of £200 to max everything out, leaving you £400 for the rest of the build. It may be possible to do that (BF3 only requires a dual core) but when you throw in the cost of an OS and a 1080p monitor, there's just no way. Sorry mate :(

Humm, thanks for all the input. I think my idea of maximum was a little generous. What kind of performance level do you get playing bf3 on a gtx 560 ti? I thought that would run at max.

Since it is very obvious max for £600 is impossible, lets say max budget of £600 with OS included. Monitor on top of that.

I play BF3 maxed out on my rig (see signature).
It could be done for a reasonable price to be honest.

A 2nd gen i5, decent motherboard and graphics will cost about £500, but ram costs pittance at the moment and a 60gb SSD is pretty cheap too. A case and decent psu will be about £100-120 if you pick carefully. Pick whatever monitor you want really, but cheap VA monitors that are 23-24 inches can be had for under £150 now and whilst the picture quality is not awesome it is much better than it was just a few years ago.

but does he need a hard disk? if he does then that'll eat another £80-£90 of the budget due to the current prices.

yes, sadly he needs a hard disk. But the purchase date won't be till mid january, maybe late january. So they could possibly drop by then. As will the current GPU range Prices i should think.

a quick read through the article tells me that the cheapest way of making a BF3 maxing rig would be to get two 2GB 6950s in the PC with an i3 2100. however, with the problems AMD are having with crossfire and BF3 i would suggest two 2GB 560Ti's in SLI, preferably overclocked, and an i5 2500k because its silly not to have an i5 2500k in a high end gaming PC

also, i would suggest an SSD for BF3 because it likes to load lots of textures on the fly

again over the £600 budget ;)

maybe i should change my initial post.

A 560ti will play easily in 'High' im sure this is gonna look like max to somebody who plays on the most dreadful graphics of the PS3...
