Life is like that. Friends drift apart and get new interests. Typically without work or school, many people don't have anything in common.

Don't be a wuss about it though, if you want to hang out with her, make arrangements to hang out with her. If you don't hit it off as friends or otherwise, then it's not a problem. Regret is such an utterly pointless emotion.

Your problem is that you are too scared to ignore your mother and go and talk to a girl you like....you are an adult, make your own mind up, and if being too shy to talk to a girl you haven't spoken to since childhood is enough for you to want to kill yourself then I would suggest that she is the least of your worries.
